They are trying to cram it down our throats so deep it can't get dislodged. And short sighted, greedy, uncritical people are just lapping it up. One of the reasons I'm so loud and aggro about this is I hope people not paying attention get wind that not everybody is just okay with this happening.

And I don't know if the answer is: everyone is too traumatized to do work and we need to reinvent society. Or if it's more like: generations are losing their cognitive abilities and willpower due to destructive technologies. Or: we all have post-viral brain damage. Or: all of the above.

My 8th grade ass was required to read Edith Hamilton's Mythology before i started freshman year in HS. Hated it. But I'm still a reader, always was. My HS children are not, nor were they ever.
But this? This is painful.

At this point, our intro comp/first-year English course has been so heavily revised, it no longer includes a novel, or "extended reading" of any kind, no "specialized" or "historical" reading, mostly in-class assignments, no research essay...and we are still seeing a 40-50% rate of AI misconduct.

As i peel potatoes with Kneecap blasting in the kitchen, i realize this really is the first holiday without both kids. 19 is in Seattle and 14 just left with the paternal side of the fam. I guess I will finish my painkillers and play Civ 6 in between side dishes. Hooray for leftovers.
