THEY PEPPER SPRAYED A BABY

THEY PEPPER SPRAYED A BABY

Please read this entire excellent piece by Caroline, which points out that a judge ordered the Feds (again) to stop doing **this exact kind of thing** and they are still continuing to do it all over Chicago
Arianna Sofia Veraza and her parents were driving to Sam's Club for milk, eggs and diapers yesterday when they heard helicopters and horns blaring yesterday. They had turned around to leave when a federal agent pepper-sprayed them through a car window.

Pepper-sprayed Berwyn family rattled after getting caught up in federal blitz
Southwest Side politicians condemned Saturday’s pepper spraying and the federal sweep of Little Village as “state-sponsored terrorism” at a news conference Sunday.

When people talk about the excesses of MeToo, they have to lie, because the reality is that there was no massive social reckoning forcing people to believe survivors or hold perpetrators accountable. In fact, there has been a significant backsliding and new punishments in rejection of MeToo

Breaking on MSNBC:

Two federal prosecutors have been placed on leave at the direction of the White House after filing a sentencing memo seeking 27 months in prison for a pardoned Jan. 6 rioter who brought illegal guns and ammunition to President Obama's house in 2023.

@brianokken.bsky.social Hey Brian - looking forward to your upcoming book!

Wanted to confirm, is the RSS feed on your pythontest.com site the same as the newsletter?

For those curious, RSS is a great way to separate marketing emails from newsletters you actually want to read.

For those in my network that may not be picking this stuff up in their feed.
ICE has now sent at least 72 people to prisons in African countries where they have no ties.

Via two ICE flights to Rwanda, two to Eswatini, three to Ghana and one to S. Sudan.

Some had US convictions but had finished their sentences. None have convictions in the places where they're now jailed.

An ICE agent, who is being arrested for drunk driving and nearly killing his little kids & others, tries to stop the arrest by racially profiling the officers arresting him. Amazing to watch the courtesy given to him as he is belligerent and uncooperative

@wil.to hey Mat, taking your course JS for everyone.

In section 9 it gets into passed by value vs reference.

let theVariable = "A string.";
const theSecondVariable = theVariable;

You then reference these as variables in the text. Can you elaborate on constants, vars, and let syntax?

@vicmsong.bsky.social just heard you on Better Offline - bad news regarding house hunters. The conflict is usually already resolved because they bought the house before the show even recorded. I’m sure they try to reenact the desires. Still entertaining though!

@davidpierce.xyz got 2 things for ya.

1. We got Sony Bravia 2 IIs in the office and this meme is me, and I’m not sure I’m using it right. I’m getting old.
2. When I’m asked who my hero is I say “Tom from MySpace.” “Why?” “Do you know what he’s doing after he sold MySpace? Exactly”

@pjvogt.bsky.social hey man, great episode on Dubai chocolate as a millennial that doesn’t keep up with trends.

Disgusting biting and chewing. Did not need to hear that in my ears directly, if I wanted ASMR I’d watch it, but damn that was too much.

Great episode. I hated it.

Front end devs, when you inherit a code base not necessarily written by a traditional developer, how do you start with fixing/updating their CSS but the product can’t go down?

I received code base from a data scientist who made it work, but it lacks a design method.

@reckless.bsky.social @davidpierce.xyz I have in fact seen one of these elusive giant Sony speakers in my real life. At my hot yoga studio they have very large speakers mounted and hooked up to Sonos. But once when their internet was out, that’s when I saw the giant Sony ULT speaker.

Good read and good thread. These people want city states - a pseudo (new?) feudalism. Their final stage is “get people in the streets whenever there is obstruction by an agency.” That’s why they are attacking agencies verbally and literally with firings and budgetary cuts.
I was recently leaked a document that was written by and for think tank and DNC affiliated policy wonks and circulated in private chats. It describes in unsparing terms the threat Curtis Yarvin, Neoreactionary tech founders, and Elon Musk pose to democracy.

@mkennedy.codes have you considered adding a “latest” path on the podcast sites you have that just redirects to the latest episode? I’m often trying to open the latest episode to get a link to share and it just removes a step. Not sure if that’s possible with your site framework though. Just an idea
