Next week marks a year since many abandoned the Twitter ship for good and took our chances with Bluesky. It wasn't an easy thing to do for the LC and CC communities, and some chose not to do it.

How has everyone's experience been since then? What more could be done to reconnect? What's missing?

5 years 11 months ago, I become very concerned.

5 years 10 months ago, I wander my city, dazed, knowing what's going to happen soon.

5 years 9 months ago, I read an email that suggests anosmia is a symptom. I decide to do everything I can to not get infected. Still doing so.

600 kids have been ripped from their families and placed in ICE camps. That’s more than in the entirety of the previous 4 years.

The average time in the camps is 6 months.

This is in addition to the young mothers having their babies ripped from their arms as they’re deported.
ICE Sent 600 Immigrant Kids to Detention in Federal Shelters This Year. It’s a New Record.
Under a zero tolerance policy, the first Trump administration separated immigrant children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border. New data suggests separations are happening all over the count...

Remember when the Young Republicans texts were released and contained a ton of harmful slurs and racist, bigoted rhetoric?

Politico censored every word but one.

Guess which one didn’t get censored?

The R slur.

It’s still socially acceptable to discriminate against disabled.

It shouldn’t be.

The idea of shaming the mask, of it being the 'scarlet letter of the pandemic', is weirdly fascinating. If you could make the shamers articulate with clear sentences why a mask is a problem, what illogical nonsense would they come up with, if they can't hide behind insinuations and insults?
Shame.

I'm not making a musical advent calendar this year.

I did it for 3 years. I don't need to do it again.

A little🧵about wearing a mask, and shame.

Some don’t understand that demonising refugees& asylum seekers is a red line for any healthy nation. As a group of people, like any other, they include the brilliant, good & bad, but labelling them as lesser humans undeserving of compassion, safety & equality is definitely bad for the whole country.

To commemorate the 6th year of the pandemic, here's an animated map showing the early spread of SARS-CoV-2 from December 2019 to January 2020, based on the genomic sequences shared in GISAID.

Locations are approximate - typically country and state/province.

Anyone who’s had an MRI can tell you it’s virtually impossible not to know what part of the body was scanned

They put heavy plates over the affected body part.

If it’s your head they lock it in.

If Trump doesn’t know what body part he had scanned, his mental status should be called into question.

Disabled people were one of the first groups targeted by the Nazis.

They coined the term “useless eaters”.

They tested the gas chambers on us.

They knew most people wouldn’t fight to save our lives.

That’s why the President using the R slur is so dangerous.

We’re not expendable

Disability isn’t a bad word.

There’s nothing wrong with being disabled.

There’s nothing wrong with identifying as disabled.

Ableism teaches us that we have to hide our disabilities.

Self acceptance means we stop hiding.

We won’t go gently for the comfort of others.

Hegseth gets accused of murder and war crimes.

Rather than taking it seriously, consulting a lawyer and shutting up…

He turns a popular children’s book into a joke about blowing up “narco terrorists”.

There’s something seriously wrong with this man.

Trump has “no idea” what part of the brain was scanned during MRI

Claims it wasn’t the brain because he aced a cognitive test

He points at two female reporters and tells them they wouldn’t be able to pass it.

Quiet piggy. You’re ugly. Are you stupid?

He can’t stop insulting women.

It was a female reporter onboard Air Force One who had the courage to call Trump out for his use of the R slur.

Women continue to show temerity against the tyrant.

They’ve been called piggy, stupid, ugly and more… but they aren’t backing down.

It’s been six years since the first reported case of SARSCov2.

It’s never too late to wear a mask.

It’s never too late to clean the air.

Every infection avoided or delayed is a win for long term health.

We can drastically reduce transmission if everyone does their part.

Sometimes I imagine what it would have been like had we adapted to Covid instead of giving up.

If we had clean air in public spaces.
Respirators in healthcare.
Free masks for those who need them.
Better tests & treatment.
Paid time off.

We would all be healthier.

No child should have to worry about being shot at school or gunned down at a birthday party.

It doesn’t matter if they’re in a red or blue state.

It doesn’t matter who their parents are.

If the volume of mass shootings doesn’t enrage you, you’ve lost your way.

It’s never ok to use the R slur.

It’s never ok to discriminate against and berate disabled people.

It’s not an acceptable term to describe anyone, for any reason.

He’s emboldening his base.

Please speak out. Help protect disabled lives.

This is also why we shouldn’t use similar language when talking about Trump.

He’s objectively a bad person.

We shouldn’t say it’s because he has brain damage, dementia or is stupid.

We can call out bad behaviour without bringing ableism into it.

You can say there’s something wrong with a person without using ableist language.

He’s mocked a disabled reporter

He’s said disabled people should be left to die

He’s a eugenicist
