Pretty much every story you hear about prisoners and ICE kidnap victims being fed rotten and bug-infested food, the company that is serving them that food is either Aramark or Trinity Services Group

Trump: "I don't want to drive housing prices down. I want to drive housing prices up for people who own homes."

So it turns out that U.K. universities may consider me an International student because I lived in Germany for a few years, despite the fact that Irish citizens are supposed to be considered ‘Home’ students. That seems entirely unfair?

Announcing the new book from one of the greatest music writers of his generation, @simonreynolds.bsky.social

Still in a Dream, out this June, is the definitive story of the slackers and shoegazers who reinvented rock, as the music they created reverberated through the late 80s into the early 90s.

Why do we need to consume so much content in the first place? Design a flying car or cure cancer or some shit. This isn’t progress!
Zuck says the age of AI slop may just be the beginning.

God forbid people in a democracy feel they should be able to vote for someone or something they believe in lol
You are the first to ask, I hope in good faith: I am referring to the demand that a candidate line up perfectly with every issue I care about, or else, and fuck everyone who will be hurt if I help elect the candidate who is promising to hurt them. And I take zero responsibility for the consequences.

I dunno, people were annoyed at liberals citing Harry Potter in every single analysis of culture or politics long before Rowling outed herself as a TERF. Sorry it’s just really annoying!
Lord preserve me from another round of “every single aspect of Harry Potter is bad and also perfectly encapsulates everything I dislike about my political enemies” discourse

A couple weeks ago an Amazon delivery van turned a corner so fast (on my very narrow, residential street) and ran up on the footpath, missing me by mere inches. Then just sped off down the road. They’re obviously under so much time pressure that they have become lethal threats on the road.
I don’t think it matters how much hi-viz a person is wearing when an Amazon delivery van is reversing down the footpath at speed - just saw this on Griffith Ave in Dublin. The footpath’s wide enough to fit a van so sure enough some delivery driver will attempt to bomb down it backwards. #RoadSafety

Arsenal are gonna win the league with exactly zero star players. Has it ever been done before
not exactly what you'd describe as "good" is it

I generally find myself shouting into the void as that rarest of things: a Dublin Bus defender. I think the main challenges they face (Dublin’s compactness and lack of a Metro) are beyond their control, and I think the improvements recently have been real and steady. But …

bring back the 145!

I see the standard sensible media line on Carrick has emerged as “well, all he’s done is make the simple and obvious decisions. Anyone could’ve beaten City and Arsenal in consecutive games with this squad if you think about it,” and that’s just so … dry? And blatantly untrue?

Would love to have this blind optimism tbh
The only answer is to change government. Trump knows that which is why he is trying to fix the next election. The AG’s attempted blackmail of Minnesota today is part of that.
Get out the votes. Voting is the only solution.

Not trying to be mean, or to reduce the severity of what’s happening with ICE but a couple points on this:

(a) ICE wasn’t formed under Trump;

(b) Martin’s government itself has in fact detained and deported children

Gonna do a thread of new (to me) albums I’ve been listening to. No rule about frequency, no theme, just somewhere to put my thoughts on music, in a (vein?) attempt to be a more intentional listener. In a way this goes hand in hand in my departure from streaming services and building a library again.

Massive hats off to everyone who dedicated their energy in the months after October 7th to attacking the UNRWA, discrediting the UN, and dismissing, sanctioning, intimidating the ICJ and ICC. Amazing work.

Thinking a lot lately about the long tradition of conservative pacifism, and how it has largely been sidelined in recent decades. Eugenicists were opposed to the First World War on the basis that, given that only the fit and healthy were sent to die, war would dilute the quality of the gene pool!
