Many months ago, Ram hit me up to ask if I'd consider unretiring for one last thing.

I asked him what he had in mind.

He'd decided not to renew at DC, and said he wanted to step away from superheroes, as well as just monthly DM comics.

I thought it over.

I said yes.

This is the collaboration I needed to read today. @riteshwriter.bsky.social has such a distinct voice as an interviewer that I feel lacks in modern criticism. And @therightram.bsky.social is one of my favorite writers in comics right now. Everyone should read this.

Just nabbed most of the back issues for Ram V. and Evan Cagle's New Gods run.

Every new thing that I learned about this book had slowly been wearing me down, but it was this page and a well timed sale that pushed me over the edge. Super excited to get caught up!

I'm going to do a longer post about this, but New Gods is so good. It's got the narrative originality of Absolute Martian, the same mix of grand sweeping scale with beautiful art direction, and thoughtful intimate character writing!

Thinking about how much I love Mister Miracle, the trickster of the New Gods, constantly bedevilling cosmic fascism and refusing, flat out, to be restrained.

All stories are fundamentally trying to say something about us, about life - the meaningful ones in any case. But stories are meant to encourage questions, pondering, contemplation.

To distil all of it down to a self-help manual, or some form of packaged wisdom is reductive and often infantile (1)
I'm a bit confused by what you mean by this given you yourself have written superhero comics that are clearly trying to say something about life

Un #comics magistral, dense et qui traite avec philosophie de sujets comme la mortalité des dieux et leurs faiblesses.
Et que dire du dessin : sublime.

HAHAHAHA OK THIS WAS A WHOLE LOT OF FUN. It’s crazy and action packed, idk what else to say. Orion & Barda are just the MVP’s of this book. I loved the respective moments Desaad and Granny Goodness have here too. Just really exciting stuff all around!

I'm not on social media too often. And being shown a post by an actual author that clubs me into a "white dude" category is well... reaffirming that people will be cringe regardless of the platform.

Yikes. Ya could have typed some stuff into Google, I don't know.
