This is such a smart, perceptive piece, and gets at so much of the zeitgeist of this content-obssessed stripe of fascism we're seeing. This passage (about Walter White and Tony Soprano in particular) is spot-on:

#Trump pardoned Tim Leiweke — who his own DOJ indicted in July for rigging a public university’s arena bid—

It’s all a grift — Saudis to crypto to pardon seekers — everything gets turned into a revenue stream. With 1,500+ pardons already, clemency is a monetized market

One of the frustrating things about this entire discussion, is even if -everything- the anti-vaxxers were saying had some basis in reality (it doesn't, but for our purposes, imagine that the world is the insane place that they say it is) the balance of public health would still favor vaccination

@jamieloftus.bsky.social I was listening to an old episode of BTB today that you were on and you mentioned someone that you called "the Mister Rogers of Pittsburgh."

You probably know this, but Fred Rogers *was* the Mister Rogers of Pittsburgh. That's where he lived.

Pedantry achieved.

Misinterpreting the most vulnerable and self-defensive attempt to survive as a hostile act? Who do you think you are, a cop?
Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."

It’s true. We shouldn’t pretend that. Trumpist culture is not the same as American culture and not equal. Trumpist culture is proudly ignorant, defiantly against America’s founding values and subsequently developed values, venomously bigoted, and generally despicable.
Fox News' Will Cain: "I’m sure there are very honorable law-abiding upstanding citizens and contributors from the Somali community here in the United States, BUT..."

He goes on to say "we aren’t going to pretend here that all cultures are of equal value or the same."

She was eventually let go, per David Goodhue of the Miami Herald, who also took this footage:

To all the people who say,”If these people would just do it the right way and become citizens,” what say you to all these ICE folks hanging out in courts and grabbing the people who are doing just that? These people ARE doing it “the right way” and are still terrorized.

Absolutely despicable.
Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Let me get this straight: we trained this guy to be an elite killer, abandoned his country to the Taliban, isolated him, arbitrarily banned him from working and so left his family unsupported.

I don’t know if there’s any more efficient way of producing a mental health crisis outside of torture.
