Actually, as the first talk of college football begins, we've done you the service of updating our guide to Texas college football, who you are allowed to root for, and whom you're obligated to root against. -OS
We'd have failed this because it's obvious the student didn't read anything. There's absolutely nothing from the actual reading here. We see so much slop anymore, we're merciless. One comment: I don't think you did the reading. F. Moving on. -OS
Turning Point at OU posted this girl's essay in full and man is it rough

What separates Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama from the pack is they're ok academic institutions with some reputation to lean on, but are willing to break the law and sacrifice everything on the pyre of football far beyond where a better school like Michigan or Texas are willing to go. -OS
Most national championships are still going to end up being won by the Georgias, Alabamas, and Ohio States of the world, with your occasional Michigan or Texas (never Aggie) interlude, while programs like Iowa who were competitive in the bowl system get hollowed out. -OS

Think the grim truth of modern CFB is that it has been reshaped for the benefit of about the 15 largest revenue programs, to give them contracts for national TV audiences, to the detriment, over the long haul, of everyone else, including *most members of even the Big 10 and SEC.* -OS
This is such a good sports thread it deserves at minimum a masters thesis to excavate. As a Wisconsin fan so much of what we deal with is/has been gutted to mean literally nothing and it sucks to pretend to care about 6-5 blown out by whatever tech.

The dream of dreams is that you can get UNT's program on the map, move it to the Big XII, and then college football is finally less stupid because you have a conference with UNT, UH, TCU, Baylor, and Tech all in it. SWC reborn! -OS
It's a shame Okie State has already grabbed their head coach. I've driven through Stillwater and wasn't much impressed.

The funniest of all possible worlds is the world where Aggie gets splattered on their home field in first round game by the UNT Mean Green. -OS
Extremely so, and the potential Texas playoff team that should have everyone's support is UNT. Go Mean Green! -OS
@lyndonbajohnson.bsky.social Houston beating Baylor is a good thing.

We would just remind you that letting Texas dog walk them twice in a row is only the second most embarrassing thing Aggie has done in the last two years. -OS

It was a travesty. And shame on the ADs at both Texas and Aggie for pretending it didn't matter. The hell it didn't.
UT Thanksgiving games against Kansas or Tech or whoever had no juice, no matter the records.

I'm happy ebough that Texas won the most important games on their schedule. In college football, that's still what matters. Beat OU, the Hogs, and Aggie. The rest is about selling Dr. Pepper and car insurance.
You may be right and I am biased as a Texas Ex but I think identical record as Okie and a head to head win puts us in.
November 30, 2025 at 3:46 AM
While I think Texas deserves credit for its three good wins. And that gets them in the conversation, I also think it's fair to punish them for the loss to Florida. Even though Texas beat OU straight up. Had they beat Florida, they'd be playing Georgia in the championship again.
I think Texas over OU for this years playoff is a no brainer but your logic stands correct.
November 30, 2025 at 3:22 AM
It *is pretty funny* that Texas will either be left out of the playoff or included in the playoff for the exact same reason -- that it is a preposterous program that feels it deserves to be treated differently and can potentially break all of CFB because of that. -OS

The deliciousness of the "pretend I'm not butthurt" Aggie butthurt today is fueling us. -OS

Though the eternal irony of Aggie is that James Earl Rudder was their best U President in the school's history precisely because he co-educated and integrated it, and yet the Rudder Society would kick all the minorities and women out if they could. -OS
In fair point of fact, Texas A&M integrated it's football team before Texas did. Sammy Williams and J.T. Reynolds made the 1967 roster (though they were limited to playing special teams). LBJ had told Darryl Royal he needed to integrate, but Royal resisted until 1970. -OS

The CFB championship has always been about politics (which is why Aggie has never won one anyone would recognize) but, I think Texas is still going to need OU or Alabama, or both, to faceplant it tomorrow to be in.
November 29, 2025 at 5:49 AM
Whether they make the playoff or not, they beat OU and Aggie. Good enough.
November 29, 2025 at 4:21 AM
Well, Aggie still ain't never played for an SEC championship. Heh.

The defense has stepped it up. Arch has to make a play and the line has to block for him.
