A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

>ICE is doing what it was designed to do

I think we can all agree on this point
After the tragic shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, ICE tactics have come under increased scrutiny. News reports show a 56% majority opinion that the shooting was inappropriate and 26% saying it was justified. Speaker Mike Johnson said ICE is doing what it was designed to do.
Siccing ICE on Minneapolis is part of Trump’s retribution against all who have opposed him

I don't have cable tv but if i did, this tendency of CNN is a prime example of why i wouldn't watch their channel
The thing is, some people can make mistakes, get things wrong, be careless, etc. But that’s not what Jennings did here. Jennings knowingly, purposefully and intentionally lied to utterly distort what was said, which CNN pays him to do every day. CNN is the enabler of this.

If it helps, people are mad at Democrats because many of their social media presences produce comms which address what's happening as though we're simply dealing with the consequences of going along with a bad restaurant recommendation.

The food isn't just bad, we want to shut down the restaurant.

the President lied about this woman and her wife in front of the entire nation. he defamed the legacy of a murder victim. this is a moral humiliation of the entire nation that cries out for justice. as a country we must cast these evildoers into prison.
NEWS: In a heartbreaking video, after ICE shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, a woman who was in the same SUV cries out: “They killed my wife. I don’t know what to do."

“We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head,” the distraught woman sobs.

Heads up that this is authorization for Trump to create his own version of the Wagner Group. Which would bring the number of “armies” at his disposal to four:

*regular armed forces (most regulated)
*ICE (minimally regulated)
*private mercenaries (?)
*MAGA thugs/militias (rogue)

All pardonable

It's a good commentary on 2025 that the US President announces a major military attack on a foreign country and even the straightest arrows think, 50% chance it's an attack, 50% chance president is on another cognition bender.

"Can you do investigative journalism from a position of neutrality?"

Still a tricky subject because if you're not neutral that suggests bias. But if you go where the facts go it doesn't.

New from me in @newrepublic.com: “Primary Every Democrat.”

If the current crop cannot demonstrate they care more about democracy than enjoying three-day weekends, we should flood the zone and challenge them all.
Primary Every Democrat
It’s exhausting to watch poll-tested, donor-beholden congressional Democrats continue to be too old, too cloistered, and too bumbling to do anything as the government burns.

i'm real skeptical of this claim. do jamelle or ryan really believe rich people hit a point where they say, "yeah, i'm wealthy enough. i don't need more."?
ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
