I think it's worth reiterating to people who despair because they feel Newsom is inevitable: the non-incumbent candidate is almost never the person who is "obvious" this far out. If anything, Newsom trying to paint himself as the early choice just gives people more time to dislike him.
I put myself through the entire interview. Trust me when I tell you that Gavin "dank memes" Newsom agrees with him on EVERYTHING. I literally says "I agree with you" on EVERYTHING. Ben "extremely unpopular even with MAGA" Shapiro gets very combative with him and Gavin capitulates EVERY time.
Ben Shapiro: "Israel did not commit a genocide in Gaza"
Gavin Newsom: "I agree with you."

I want to live in a world where Democratic party leadership and elected officials are at least as radical as the host of Jeopardy
The “prosecute the former regime at every level” candidate has my vote in 2028.

Basically I find it hard to avoid the conclusion that conservatism is an elaborate defense of selfishness, no matter how refined, and that it always tends towards fascism and authoritarianism. And that I can't think of any "good" form of it ever existing. Whereas left politics have enormous variety.

Democrats need to understand that they can just say “It’s insane to threaten Greenland” and “I don’t think ICE should murder Americans in the street” and you don’t need to pretend to link it to the affordability crisis.

Say bad things are bad.

Cranking the jams today, because I don't want to risk even the tiniest chance of any moment of silence going to Dick Cheney.

On the way back from vacation in Minnesota, a small town had painted in giant letters on a concrete retaining wall "WE ♥ BURRITOS and Jesus" and while I had many questions (and a growing need to make a rest stop) we most definitely did not stop to ask them.

If Paramount wanted to dispel that their settlement was a bribe, they sure picked an interesting strategy and timing.

I've been told that AI "makes people more productive" and "it's not going away", but the same could be said for cocaine, and I feel like people might object if Google raised their prices and sent everyone an eight ball each month without even asking.

I always get so much rage on behalf of indie developers when I click on a developer name on a Steam page and instead of seeing a list of everything they've made, it takes me to the PUBLISHER page. Let indies build a following ffs

Just got done cancelling my internet service with TDS Telecom because I'm moving to an area that they don't provide service to.

Absolutely ridiculous that in this day and age cancelling service requires a phone call. I was on the line for just shy of 45 minutes!

Finally got around to finishing Farscape. Only a bit over 20 years late.

Heard someone say they had enough books.

You can never have enough books.

Too many books, yes. But never enough.

Anything I have to fact check because it's more likely than not to just make up shit... is not useful.
I don’t think there’s a single serious critic who says AI’s not useful? The concerns I see are about content rights, worker impacts, environmental effects, epistemological threats, or media manipulation. But that’s all predicated on the idea that it *does* work, often too well for people to manage…
The NYT Magazine asked me and @caseynewton.bsky.social to open their AI issue by talking about how we use AI, why it's not going away, and how you can't be a serious critic if you're in denial about how useful it is. Bluesky's gonna love this one!

Sandfall is going to do what they want with it, but I'm really hoping they take the classic Final Fantasy approach with Clair Obscur and make a series of sequels that have a similar vibe to Expedition 33 but with an entirely new world and characters each time. Just let each stand on its own.

In the library parking lot a little kid yelled at me "hey firecracker head! You've got a firecracker head!" What could I say? Kid totally had my number. Utterly destroyed.

I get why the focus is currently on Kilmar Abrego Garcia, but it's important to remember that every single person that has been sent from the US to CECOT is a constitutional crisis.

It doesn't matter if any of them are or are not gang members. Every one of them is constitutionally owed due process!

Hey Lenovo and Microsoft: If I wanted to switch to Bing, I'm sure not going to do it just because a dumb driver updater app tried to trick me into it on an automatic update.

I was already planning on never buying another Lenovo product, but BS like this just further cements that decision.

Wisconsin law pretty clearly states that it's a crime just to offer something of >$1 value to induce someone to go to the polls.

Elon Musk did this publicly.

So why is our AG not having him arrested?

I'd told myself I'd pick up Elden Ring when it was <$30, and with a coupon it was $30.20 on Fanatical, so I figured that was close enough.

I'll give it more time, but so far I much prefer the Dark Souls games. It's the open world. I'm missing the more structured and confined level design.

Minority Leader @schumer.senate.gov really doing his best to secure a legacy of being forever spoken of in the same breath as the likes of Neville Chamberlain and Pierre Laval.

If @schumer.senate.gov doesn't get primaried I sure hope it's because he's already resigned in disgrace.
