This is heartbreaking, and also upsetting to see it amplified instantaneously when video shows her wife crying and talking about their kid at school. We have no idea what kind of family dynamics are at play and a same-sex partner is vulnerable to being muscled out of the story, so we should use care

i wrote this essay. reading it will be distinctly less good than reading the novel but better than a number of other things.

a coworker thought, incredibly, that the wily mr. walton goggins was named WALTER goggins—a ludicrous mistake which strips him of so much of the poetry and sexual verve of his very person—and now four others claim they too believed this and i feel so afraid. adrift. these are not my people.

One of my favourite small David Lynch moments is when he tried to do one of those ceramic art cows for New York City and submitted this and was rejected.

Was LAFD defunded by $17.5 million? YES

Some council offices and the mayor are now trying to cover for their disastrous budget by claiming that they approved new LAFD contracts, which happened 6 months AFTER they approved the FY24-25 budget, leading to services and 58 LAFD positions cut

To be clear, this is the *Biden* White House we’re talking about and Jesus Hula-Hooping Christ this is the worst fucking thing they could do on the way out
"[T]he White House is drafting a plan to open up public lands for the construction of AI data centers along with power plants ... [I]t could allow the gas-burning power plants to exceed pollution limits and give data centers priority access to energy over other consumers on the electric grid."
The expansion of AI data centers and a rush to export fracked gas is rapidly reshaping the energy landscape.

Every anti-trans-care argument falls apart when you ask why it doesn't apply to any other medical decision
this is an argument for banning both all plastic surgery and knee replacements
Kavanaugh obsessed over trans people "regretting" their decision to transition and that being a state interest.

Setting aside the fact that the rate of "regret" is very low, it's not the state's job to protect people from regret.

This is an argument for the ultimate nanny-state.
