In short, the problem here is not that Signal ‘chose’ to run on AWS. The problem is the concentration of power in the infrastructure space that means there isn’t really another choice: the entire stack, practically speaking, is owned by 3-4 players. 11/

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

As a student of history, I hope to live long enough to see the prosperity gospel and all of those who follow it tossed into some kind of big vat, 'cuz I really want to see what new system comes after Big Vat Day.

Federal Judges— or staff, but same-same— used "AI" to summarize & draft rulings, issued them w/o checking the work, leading to basic factual errors, & thus undermining the facticity & validity of the rulings entire.

Gee. Who Could Have Foreseen. *stares directly into the camera like in the office*
Two federal judges say use of AI led to errors in US court rulings
Two federal judges admitted in response to an inquiry by U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley that members of their staff used artificial intelligence to help prepare recent court orders that Grassley called "error-ridden."

I keep one of these on my keychain.

Once you pull it off the "pin," you can hold it discreetly in your palm or pocket. If you have to leave the area, you can drop it and it will continue to make noise. You can even give it a little kick in the right direction.

It's a response to a silly joke that I made, so ultimately it's not that deep, and I almost didn't respond.

It feels girlbossy. Maybe that's what you're going for. I guess I just hope that it isn't, because this is a patronizing way to talk to women. Anyway, congrats on one year.
I admire some of the women who are contributors (particularly Chrissy), so it would be great to see this project succeed.

Which is why I have to say, addressing a woman who you don't know as 'bestie' is a weird way to start a conversation about feminist criticism.
Just read this article, now ugly crying…

“As federal workers, we signed up to serve the American people and to serve the public, and while we're on furlough and we can't do that as part of our jobs, we want to find other ways to give back to our local communities,”
Here in Seattle, furloughed NOAA employees were out in the pouring rain cleaning up beaches yesterday, part of a national week of service organized by federal workers who can't do their jobs due to the shutdown.

Story by @heyjohnryan.bsky.social at KUOW, our federally defunded public radio station.
Furloughed feds pick up Seattle beach trash to keep serving the public
Furloughed federal employees were out in the rain picking up cigarette butts, bottle caps, and other trash at Seattle’s Golden Gardens Park on Friday.

2/ In 2001, Borsook said tech "libertarianism" reflected an adolescent mindset, with a craving for unchecked independence & resistance to constraint.

She warned that tech libertarians wanted an anti-human world that worked more like a computer. From "Cyberselfish," a book based on her 90s writing:
The next round of DoD rules will require journalists to fellate Pete Hegseth on air or live streaming.

The only thing more embarrassing than being as pathetically insecure as Pete Hegseth is acquiescing to Pete Hegseth’s insecurities.
Here's a sample piece of "journalism" from one of the "news" outlets that signed the DoD rules. Welcome to the new press corps.

Sweet Eight Pound Six Ounce Newborn Infant Jesus, don't even know a word yet, this passage from Jay Bhattacharya’s review of Fauci’s book makes me long for the glory days when scientists held each other accountable to the standards and principles of science, as a duty to the profession and public. 💔
Mamdani has hoodwinked the Democrats into revealing their racism! Oh no!
By the end of the weekend, @colbertlateshow.bsky.social will have found a way to secure the naming rights and make The Epstein Ballroom official. Big reveal of the signage by a parade of mascots on the final show in May 2026.
By lunchtime on Thursday, I want to see screenshots of Grok telling someone that the final name of the White House Ballroom is still for sale, but the working name being used by project planners is The Epstein Ballroom.
Tomorrow morning if every major news outlet isn't claiming that Bluesky is an irrelevant echo chamber in response to The Epstein Ballroom trending, I will be sorely disappointed.

I need to see clips of Mike Johnson on television insisting that he hasn't seen any posts about The Epstein Ballroom.

Why does everyone keep calling it “The Epstein Ballroom?” Please stop repeating “The Epstein Ballroom” because it is not called “The Epstein Ballroom!” Don’t tell the news that it’s called “The Epstein Ballroom” and please don’t repost this!!!!!

The Democrats are not looking for someone who can win, they are looking for someone who can fundraise. They don’t need candidates who can lead, they need candidates who can go viral. This is why bad candidates will continue to be elevated by the Democratic Party establishment.
The more I see the photo, the more I'm reminded of other White House photos, and I'm starting to think that maybe they should just finish the job?

I remember going there as a kid multiple times, being completely awestruck, years later realizing that most of the things we'd been taught were lies.
Honestly just tear the whole fucking structure down. Raze it to the ground.

It's always been cursed.

When we honestly examine our historic leaders and institutions, the imperative to condemn and abandon them becomes clear. You can't build anything of integrity or value on a rotten foundation.
I will not abandon or sacrifice anyone for a theory of politics. I have no common purpose with people who wish for the nonexistence of other people. It's that simple. Bigotry is only popular with bigots. Aligning with bigotry is a choice to empower bigotry, whether one is holding their nose or not.
