my immediate first thought is rage

my immediate second thought is to demake the game because it seems like a simple enough project... probably...
Put some finishing touches & released my Elevator Action/Rolling Bird inspired game :
boghog.itch.io/caramel-acti...
You can play it in your browser

Though I'd recommend getting the desktop ver since the browser version is funky

was a fun talk, i ultimately STRONGLY leaned into the former but the other perspective was intriguing to hear

I think usage of "intuitive" in game design discussions would be a lot more productive if people separated it into 2 categories - intuitive in accordance to real world experiences and intuitive from past exposure to similar games & existing conventions

Had to explain this to my uncle in a way he understood and I said

"imagine if you had a plate of your favorite extra hot wings but every time you went to get a drink the restaurant would replace your wings with something less spicy until you had plain wings."

He gets it now

They gave Balatro an 18+ only rating because it had poker cards in it.

Disney Solitaire has literal actual real money gambling with dark pattern lootbox microtransactions and is for ages 3 and above.

I would have not possibly have guessed the Biggest Haters were that young, or that even the 13-17 year olds, while less disgusted, are still firmly in the 'no' camp. Only old people have any real "positive" percentage

I will not buy any of your products if you utilize generative AI at any point during development. This is unacceptable and a slap in the face of your hard working employees and artists.

Yeah I mean ZUN's already flirting with that shit and that's how it's gonna be - no big event to point to, just a slow trickle in of the tech as people get excuses and then evetually stop giving a shit. As it *always* happens with every negative trend

Think the most clear demo of why you need principles for game design eval is playing frustrating games. It's a powerful emotion but it's also not only extremely subjective & fleeting (git gud etc) but highly dependent on what surrounds it. Distinguishing good vs bad frustration via introspection is-
