I stand with County Executive Calvin Ball as he signs emergency legislation today prohibiting privately owned buildings from being used as ICE detention centers.

The Episcopal Church has put together a very impressive toolkit for protesting, including tips for clergy in particular. Truly inspiring. This is how Christians ought to be engaging the moment.

Will any of this fix the world alone?

Nah.

But if we all try to at least shift the world a little, we'll still get farther than if we didn't.

A friend developed a crochet pattern for an adult-sized version of Liam's blue bunny hat. Donation to MN immigration causes requested for noncommercial pattern use.

The approach can seem inept, but none of this is a mistake. The random and arbitrary harm is deliberate.

And the cruelty is still the point.

Everyone deserves to live, here and abroad. Everyone. No ifs ands or buts.

Chicago.
El Fasher.
Gaza City.
Kharkiv.
Uvira.
Sydney.
Dhaka.
Minneapolis.
Utøya.

Devaluing anyone anywhere will form the basis for devaluing everyone everywhere.

No more.
People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

Honestly love the framing from Minneapolis because it's true:

So many are saying, they're our *neighbors.* Why wouldn't we defend them?

The difference between the Twin Cities and so much of this country is they don't have that asterisk next to "neighbor" that says "terms and conditions apply."

With the recent news I am deeply disappointed and disgusted.

Disney would be nothing without human artists and with AI or not they will continue to be nothing without human artists. For that reason I don’t think this will last. I will no longer accepting assignments or work based on Disney IP.

in 2025 I was angry a lot.

and I learned a lot about feeling my anger, and a little about channeling it professionally. (helpful but exhausting)

thus far in 2026, my anger has extended to the Universe (as a deity stand-in) and the concept of mortality.

so
clearly this is going well.

the easiest error re: the original sense of "woke" is self-application.

it's like calling a place a "safe space". I can work to make my spaces safer, and tell people I'm doing that, but I don't get to decide if someone feels safe.

but also why am I and everyone else not in a union right now
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.
