A quick reminder that you can pre-order Enough Is Enough, the book I co-authored with @mattbernico.bsky.social on capitalism, degrowth, and liberation theology. It's out May 12, but it's not too early to pick up a copy, and/or ask your local library to get one!

Okay but it's *not even war.*
Duckworth: "It is a war crime. It's illegal. No matter how you put it, it's all illegal. I've been shot down behind enemy lines. Under the laws of war, you are supposed to help render aid to that individual ... you're not allowed to go back in and kill them."

I've learned a lot from Harvey, looking forward to reading this and also I appreciate that he put the chapter that seems most likely to make me crabby at the very end.

That is, unfortunately, not true (truly delusional to imagine Dems coming around at all right now on degrowth in any meaningful way), but once @mattbernico.bsky.social's and my book comes out in the spring there will be no stopping degrowth.
Very few people follow degrowth.

Unfortunately, that small number includes the leadership of all the big name brand green organizations and their influence keeps hobbling the Democratic Party and responsible efforts to address climate change.
Degrowth is a relatively obscure concept. People like you feel like you have to elevate it because it’s a foil for you, not because it’s something all that many people actually follow.

I really feel like if people asked themselves, genuinely, "do I *need* to use AI for this?" they would find the answer is always "no." I know this because I need to do a lot of things and have never used AI to do any of them.

Thinking of teaching my yearly grad course next summer on Enrique Dussel. I usually teach issue based courses but the thing about Dussel is you can talk about all the issues and any progressive philosopher you want because he'll make you.

One weird thing about working in international Catholic solidarity is that due to travel I haven't been able to go to Sunday Mass at my home parish in several weeks, but I've actually been going to Mass way more than I would otherwise because that's just what happens I guess.

It's funny that despite a resurgence of the right in many places, Trump has also decisively secured several liberal and left voting blocs (Canada included) that would very likely have fragmented or collapsed altogether otherwise.
‘Colombians don’t appreciate being branded as a nation of drug traffickers, least of all by someone like Trump. For the moment, President Gustavo Petro’s popularity has rebounded.’

While the UN conferences on climate change fail, Chico Mendes' concrete utopia remains alive: the Amazon as a common good, not as a sanctuary or commodity.
