I try not to get too obsessed with US politics as it’s so insane and we have enough problems here in Aotearoa. But this incident feels like a horrible turning point. Trump has a gestapo.
He wasn’t afraid for his life. He didn’t think he was in danger. He shot her because she wasn’t afraid. He took her life because he was angry that she didn’t cower in his presence. Didn’t show him the deference he felt he deserved.

These are the men DHS gives unchecked power to:
Misogyny, Murder and Renee Nicole Good
It's been a week since we watched an ICE agent shoot and kill Renee Nicole Good and then mutter "f*cking b*tch" at her. It's time we talk about the misogyny that's baked into ICE enforcement.

While many folks are back at work, I’m capping off the most gloriously idyllic beach holiday surrounded by my amazing extended family. We’ve enjoyed kai moana and garden salads, decadent desserts, walked for miles and been swimming most days. Holy shit, I am so grateful for this privilege.

So relieved Labour have finally made their position clear! The Judicial Review will take a while and we can expect a change of Govt next year, this means AoNZ can continue to be a safe place for trans kids and their families. Makes me proud!
Another very useful thing to come out of this case regardless of final result. Finally an on the record position from the leader on behalf of the party.

"Hipkins said Labour's position was that it was a matter for the young person concerned, their family, and their physician."
Puberty blockers ban delayed by judicial review

This is such good news for trans young people and rainbow families. I have hope AoNZ will eventually do the right thing - although we might need to wait until after the next election.
BREAKING: The High Court of New Zealand has granted PATHA’s application for interim relief, declaring that the Crown should not take any steps to enforce the incoming ban on new prescriptions of puberty blockers to transgender children and young people. More to come:

Min of Health has decided not to continue with the FluTracking survey each week from next year.

What a ridiculous decision. The cost savings must be minimal

What are our taxes actually used for if not things like public health?

Very heartening to see leading experts push back against the blatant bigotry. Cisgender children are allowed to block their puberties but trans kids can’t??? - this is insanely discriminatory.
Important news NZ peeps! Great to see PATHA challenging this terrible ban.
BREAKING: PATHA has filed an urgent injunction in the high court seeking to prevent the puberty blocker ban from coming into force, as part of an urgent judicial review we are seeking to overturn the ban entirely.

There are a million children in Aotearoa, about 700 of them have been prescribed puberty blockers (that's 0.07%)

Medication decisions should be decided by the child, their caregivers, and the relevant health professionals, not a party relying on imported culture wars to stay in power

AoNZ is no longer a safe place for rainbow families.
It's being reported that New Zealand has banned puberty blockers for transgender youth. I removed New Zealand from my recommendations to families fleeing a while back after the far right saw a surge in power in the country.

Sad day for NZ trans youth.

This is an attack on trans kids, who are some of the most vulnerable children in society.
Puberty blockers are safe and proven - the THIRD PARAGRAPH acknowledges that children WILL still be prescribed them, just not if they're trans

Outrageous bigoted move by this terrible Government - targeted discrimination against trans kids. Shame!
The NZ government take a big step down a dangerous path, one driven by eliminationist ideology and backed by blatant pseudoscience.

The Cass Review they cite has been widely debunked and the clinical trial they mention has been rightly blasted as unethical and unworkable. Fuck these clowns.
