This is what happens when The Proud Boys and the Oathkeepers don uniforms that say police. The truth is that police don’t wear masks. ICE is not a police force. They are white supremacists cosplaying as soldiers.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

Can you trust American anymore?

Why not try European?

I’ve tried some of these since last autumn and am in the middle of transferring to Europe = exiting US services.

Critically, Australian media (particularly commercial FTA) love an alarmist talking head.

Keep an eye out for ICE apologists appearing as commentators (from the US). Guaranteed they’ll come.

Also they use local ill-informed idiots offering their hottest takes as they discuss the headlines. Yuck.

Maybe a good time to re-share my thread about how a skeezy crypto company *made profit* during the massive Texas winter freeze of 2021 by first seizing a massive amount of grid capacity and then getting paid to trickle a tiny amount back to freezing, dying citizens
I really couldn't help but dig into this - and I think it's fair to say that the Economist headline *is actually correct* - and I'm going to explain why in a short thread.

it's really good that Oracle bought TikTok, a business that only loses money, at a time when it took on $56bn+ in debt and $240bn in lease obligations for GPUs to rent to OpenAI, a company that will run out of money. This could all have the funniest ending ever

My favourite #Murderbot is any of the audiobook versions. Narrator Kevin R. Free does a freaking brilliant interpretation, mikes better than my reading.

Last night, I binged the TV series. I loved it, but missed the psych vibes of Free's interpretation.
TV series has the superior Pin Lee version.

Australia should not passively accept the bully and become a vassal state of the US. We have plenty of what the world wants. We have the capacity to build a new order that embodies our values.

It is not acceptable to pay ANY workers in Australia $2.50 an hour a so the union movement is fighting Carnival Cruises doing this on their Australian ships through appalling, exploitative loopholes.

There is the obvious reason to do it, and also to "incentivize more non-US options."
Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

As Greg points out, the great weakness of Australian constitutional government is how much is left to ministerial discretion on the assumption that whoever holds the post is serious and accountable. As the US, and maybe soon the UK suggests, this assumption can be deadly.
