these poorly funded support programs are a band aid on the poverty and trauma <caused> by police and prisons. The whole system - costing upwards of $20 billion every year - gives victims, generous salaries, and impunity to racists who abuse children.

To be clear, to talk of one section of society "reclaiming" land which was stolen by our settler-colonial state and whose sovereignty remains unceded, and when settler-colonialism is at the heart of the current racialised rupture, is just grotesque
It was appropriate to have a day of mourning, but this language is very problematic in the context of Israel's actions and the political insistence on merging all Jews with that country as a unitary identity. And Minns' tie colour choice wasn't an accident.
