it is very difficult for me to square what Nilay is saying (which is accurate!) with the passionate arguments around my childhood....which stated that the entire purpose of the second amendment was to be able to potentially defend yourself against a tyrannical federal government
“Everyone should be allowed to carry a gun for their safety but the government can murder you in the street if you have a gun” is an incredible endpoint for the conservative moment
