I realize Foreign Policy has zero voter salience so who cares but how in the hell can it be R+1.

Impossible to overstate the advantage of "I saw that guy on TV!" when elections in the closest states (a tier Minnesota is just outside of) are repeatedly decided by the dumbest ~5% of voters.
You don’t understand how deranged the average Minnesota Republican is these days. Everyone is underestimating the MyPillow guy, this is the state that elected Jesse Ventura because they hated both sides.
everything keeps getting dumber so I may come to regret this question but does the New York Times have any particular reason to believe the Nazi Pillow guy is a "strong" candidate for governor?

Prompts the question, what is the >least< inept department of the Trump administration? Maybe Education? Their only assigned function now is self-annihiliation.

I was a Warren guy and as such deeply afronted at the "Bernie doesn't think America is mature enough to elect a woman" kerfuffle but six years on the evidence vindicating him just keeps piling up.
a fun fact about 2016 is that Hillary Clinton went to incredible pains to never be photographed making a fist

Exactly. The decisive factor in American politics in 2025 is that the staggeringly ignorant 15% at the fulcrum of US elections has turned entirely against Trump. For reasons completely indifferent to intra-Democratic conflict along the Mods/Progs axis.

The idea that Trump knows what >any< of his bills actually do is less plausible than the old comedy bits with George W. Bush quoting Latin poetry at dinner parties and solving intractible problems in theoretical physics, or Reagan planning out the fine details of Iran-Contra like Gus Fring.
There is something weird here that Trump will tell Republicans not to touch Medicaid while simultaneously also pushing a bill that will do massive harm Medicaid. He does this behind closed doors, suggesting he may not actually understand what is in his bill www.politico.com/news/2025/05...

Yes, but the protest sign-up that drove Imani to kick off this discourse is the same "comes with a trial subscription to MSNBC, all your mom's friends will be there and then they're going to the Hamilton road production after" type of protest that Cooper is talking about.
you and they are not talking about the same type of "protest"
The “don’t sign up for protests” thing is just an outgrowth of the Online tendency to one-up other people on how much you care. Oh, they’re protesting and signing people up for it? I’ll show them by claiming that’s wrong and you can care more by not signing up.

Humiliating that the sleazeballs who scam our base look at the metrics and decide that the more effective play is emails like

"Tears in our eyes!!! Katie Porter just DESTROYED Citizens United!!! Sign the petition [hyperlink to donation page that discloses T&C in 3pt font]!!!!!"

instead of this.
I love GOP fundraising emails

No.
1) Under Vermont law the interim appointment serves 6 months or until an interim election, most likely folded into the 2008 general. Peter Welch or Howard Dean wins the special and filibuster math is same as OTL....

Oh no, will NYT and WaPo reporters no longer be able to collect huge advances for stories about Trump committing crimes, endangering the country, or just being horrible, that they've been sitting on for 30 months?

Better do another book about Joe Biden misremembering a baseball score from 1953.
Publishing has become just as polarized as the rest of society, making it harder to sell books that don’t take a side.

“Are you selling a book to the MSNBC crowd or the Fox News crowd? There’s very little in between,” one agent tells @politico.com.
‘Those days are over’: Trump books draw lackluster sales
While books about Donald Trump sold big in his first term, a slate of similar works isn’t seeing the same success in his second administration.

Yes, but this isn't being done by those people and their cool friends, so it's bad. Not that these people actually want to make a Project 2029, they just want to bitch about "someone" not doing it and handing it to them and their cool friends to present.
Weren't people just complaining about how there was no Project 2029 for the Dems the last few months?

I spent a chunk of my 20s working in an independent book store.

One afternoon a woman came in, took this book off the window display, wrote something on the inside, and left it on the counter and walked out. My boss picked it up, looked at the signature and said "Oh shit, that was Teri Hatcher."

I wasted too much time in the late 2010s arguing with people who believed Bill Clinton invented neoliberalism from whole cloth in 1990 solely to chase donations from mustache-twirling capitalists because everyone who remembers this is at least pushing 60.

So scarred by black people not liking his primary candidate that he's still grinding his teeth and pissing his pants about it 6 years later.

Again they literally banned the phrase 'Free Palestine' within minutes of Trump taking the oath of office.

Why do you think it is that TikTok was promoting that phrase in their algorithm during the election but is censoring it now that Trump is in office. Tell me what you think their goal was.

Look, if you need it stated plainly, TikTok was in favor of allowing this content when it hurt Joe Biden, and not anymore now that it will hurt Donald Trump. I don’t give a shit about your first amendment justifications, this app is not your fucking friend and never was.
Every last TikTok user got fuckin' played by the PRC into helping fascists take power in the US, and now that you all are no longer needed, you and your pet causes are being put out to pasture by the right-wing dictator Xi.

Feel like I can't be crazy seeing parallels here to horseshoe notions that the 1950s were a golden age when one "could buy a house and support a family on one income." Children of the 20th percentile believing old sitcoms and advertising/Chinese .000001%er influencers are representative.

In the end the only Democrat to suffer a meaningful electoral consequence for failing to oppose the Iraq War from the start was Hillary Clinton. Even Joe Lieberman nearly got a second VP nomination out of it for his support.
3) The Democrats' muddled position did not hamper them from victories running on opposition to the war in 2006. Nor did failing to deliver on their anti-war rhetoric keep them from winning by greater margins in 2008, when the war had been eclipsed as an issue by the financial crisis/Great Recession.
