Polls shows Americans approve of the deal to re-open the government by a wide margin

One way the shutdown deal might actually help Democrats
A plurality of voters approve of the deal to end the government shutdown. Democrats have an opportunity to claim they saved SNAP & other government programs, which could help repair the party's image

This is actually good spin, or would have been. But the fact that the Democratic cave happened without even a coordinated, agreed-upon message like this indicates the depth of the leadership void.

i am going to sit on the house steps with some fellow furloughed folks who do not like the current deal

while also firmly believing all of the current discourse drastically understates how bad the shutdown pain has gotten and what that ultimately imperils

if they were going to cave anyway they should’ve done it a week ago to spare SNAP recipients the agony.

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

🚨 BREAKING: A federal judge in Rhode Island rules from the bench that the Trump admin **must** pay SNAP benefits.

"The court is orally ordering that USDA must distribute the contingency money timely or as soon as possible for the November 1 payments to be made."

Story to come.
This directly puts the ball in the Trump administration's court.

There's no longer a question of "can they issue SNAP benefits." They now **must** issue the payments.

So will they? And if so, how much?

These are now policy (and political) questions solely for the Trump administration.
‼️ On SNAP, very significant here:

A federal judge rules that the Trump admin is "required" to spend the $5.5 billion in contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.

But there will still be a gap in benefits; she gave the admin until Nov. 3 to share if/how they will issue payments.

This is something I struggle with - The GOP simply doesn't want government to work, so anything that gums up the works of government like DOGE or the shutdown is a plus for them. How do you negotiate with someone with a gun to their head who wants to pull that trigger?

Trump is saying if Democrats don't bend the knee and let him take health care away from millions, he's just going to turn around and inflict pain by firing American workers and withholding funding from our communities.

That’s not governing. That’s a wannabe king taking hostages.

Cyberpunk may have its flaws - fewer, by far, these days - but it made me feel a feel. I felt a feel at the beginning, I felt a different feel at the ending, I felt other, still different feels in the middle.

If the game makes you feel a feeling, honestly, you can overlook most of the rest.
Cyberpunk ending with the Aldecados still gets me in the feels

I think Democrats should claim that they're going to make immigration tougher, and then simply describe a better version of system when asked about it. Polling consistently shows that the public wants to get tougher, and also that their version of tougher is *weaker than the actual system now.*

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

I will never, ever vote for Gavin Newsom. Ever, under any circumstances. I don't care if he becomes the Dem nominee, he's still not getting my vote.
On a recent podcast Gavin Newsom tells Shawn Ryan how the Trans sports issue opened the door for him to change his mind on GAC for Trans Youth.

As someone who adored him since 2004 and voted for him 5 times, I can't wait for him to leave office.

There is no way I will be voting for him a 6th time.

You hate Nader for spoiling the 2000 election.

I hate Nader for destroying state capacity and empowering NIMBYism.
CEQA represents something like the ideal of Naderite torts liberalism. A way for basically anyone to sue to block anyone from building anything. Predictable result: it's hard to build anything without a decade in court so nothing gets built!

Gavin Newsom went on TV, called Tom Homan a bitch, and said he if he wanted arrest him he knew where to find him. Maxine Waters told an ICE agent to his if they planned to shoot her they should at least shoot straight.

I really don't know what you want from them right now.
Right now, Dems are hiding in their offices, scrolling their phones fearfully, wondering "how are voters going to feel about the National Guard being deployed?"

The right, meanwhile, is vigorously *attempting to shape* how voters feel about it, filling every medium with coordinated propaganda.
