This year, I finished my MA, published a few books, sold a couple of short stories, spoke on several panels at conferences, and wrote my first short podcast script. It was a good year in writing, but I think 2026 will be even better!

I've noticed that writing advice doesn't really transfer from one person to another. What works for one writer very often doesn't work for another writer. I read "how to write" books for years to no avail before I discovered This One Weird Trick That Only Works For Me, Not You, Sorry.

One of the reasons Chainsaw Man goes so hard is that the writing combines super high stakes with realistic motivating factors for the humans (kill a demon and you get to touch boobs, feed a demon or your cat dies).

This month was set to be one of my worse sales months, which correspond strongly to my health...and, then, someone went through and bought every book in my sci-fi series. I don't know if that person follows me, but, if they do...I saw that and you're amazing. It was a horrible day and you fixed it.

The best thing about knowing more experienced people who cook is asking them about something very specific (like the timing of thawing a turkey based on how many pounds it is), and having them go, “I never do any of that. Here’s what I do.”
