Well I feel compelled to respond to that OU student essay since we’re talking about my alma mater here:
1. It was a shitty essay.
2. It was a shitty assignment / rubric.
3. She probably did enough to get better than a zero.
4. She got exactly the result she wanted.

Do what I do and just blind buy a ton of stuff from Criterion. Can't go wrong. Or get the Criterion Channel (like I also do).
yes. i encourage everyone to find ways to watch random movies you know nothing about at least some of the time as a sanity check on your taste and a guard against algorithmic nicheification. you might find stuff you really like!
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste

I question the journalistic value of showing up and sticking a microphone in front of the president when his typical response to anything but glowing praise is basically “you’re a big dummy”. Seems like no audience is served by this but we have a class of journalists who can’t do anything else?
