This looks like anti-Christian bias to me.

Outside of the Broadview ICE facility, a state trooper tells the delegation attempting to have communion with detainees that ICE has denied their request.

Looking forward to the halftime show with John Rich, Kid Rock, and the racist ghost of Toby Keith.

Really should have made this a Magnolia reference and I apologize to my fellow film nerds for the oversight

UPDATE: In emailed statement to me / @reason.com, DHS alleges that WGN-TV producer Debbie Brockman "threw objects at Border Patrol’s car and she was placed under arrest for assault on a federal law enforcement officer."
Screencap of email from DHS public affairs: Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin:

“U.S. Border Patrol was conducting immigration enforcement operations and when several violent agitators used their vehicles to block in agents in an effort to impede and assault federal officers. In fear of public safety and of law enforcement, officers used their service vehicle to strike a suspect’s vehicle and create an opening. As agents were driving, Deborah Brockman, a U.S. citizen, threw objects at Border Patrol’s car and she was placed under arrest for assault on a federal law enforcement officer.

“This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of illegal aliens violently resisting arrest and agitators and criminals ramming cars into our law enforcement officers. These attacks highlight the dangers our law enforcement officers face daily—all while receiving no pay thanks to the Democrats’ government shutdown.”

Anyhow it’s just “political beliefs have become indistinguishable from religious beliefs for many American Christians” part one million.

Like…this is bog standard Catholic social teaching. Literally what I was raised to believe. And yet suddenly people I personally know who have been Catholic for decades are very offended by it. Wonder what changed?

This is all very funny to me, a former Catholic. I saw Pope Leo say two things the other day:

1. If you’re against abortion and in favor of the death penalty, you’re not pro-life

2. If you’re against abortion and in favor of the inhumane treatment of immigrants, you’re not pro-life

The scene with the two police officers still haunts me. Just the nonchalance of it.

Remember the attack on the ICE facility in Dallas with that bullshit “engraving” on a bullet casing? Weird that we haven’t heard anything else about that.
sooner930.bsky.social
It’s so transparently obvious that the administration is just begging for someone to get violent with ICE agents so they can retaliate.
sooner930.bsky.social
Oh wait my bad these probably aren’t the *real* Christians.
sooner930.bsky.social
Weird because all of my MAGA relatives told me that Biden was going to martyr Christians left and right and yet it seems to be their dude deploying masked vigilantes to fire on the clergy. Odd.

NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.

All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court. religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...
Religious protesters say ICE threatens religious freedom in Chicago
(RNS) — Despite potential danger, religious leaders and faith activists have been a visible presence at Chicago-area ICE protests, some waving signs with slogans such as ‘Love thy neighbor’ and ‘Who w...

Clearly it is their profound respect for our sacred institutions that is preventing Republicans from just ending the filibuster and passing whatever legislation they want to reopen the government.

Notice the vagueness of “hasten all manner of political ends” as compared to the relative specificity of “advance illiberal aims and silence opponents”. Always the sign of a bullshit argument.

“Just as the left used [George] Floyd’s death to justify and hasten all manner of political ends, the right is invoking [Charlie] Kirk’s name to advance illiberal aims and silence opponents,” Thomas Chatterton Williams argues: https://theatln.tc/CBsfQRXm

I dunno I’m not seeing a bunch of posts about Democrats scheduling town halls in Republican districts and this seems like political malpractice to me. Sorry guys I don’t think doing a bunch of CNN / MSNBC hits is going to win the day.

Sorta feel like the shutdown issue for the democrats should have been the Epstein files instead of healthcare.

I continue to think that one of the reasons this country is falling apart is the wholesale abandonment of public virtue as a broadly shared aspiration. Or even something people should be embarrassed about if they don’t have it.

👀 Just Now -- President Trump in the Oval Office said a government shutdown gives his administration the power to cut benefit programs, which include Social Security and Medicare.

www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
“We can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them, and irreversible by them, like cutting vast numbers of people out, cutting things that they like, cutting programs that they like. And, you all know Russell Vought. He’s become very popular recently because he can trim the budget to a level that you couldn't do any other way. So they're taking a risk by having a shutdown. Because of the shutdown, we can do things medically and other ways, including benefits. We can cut large numbers of people. We don't want to do that, but we don't want fraud, waste and abuse.”
