and as much as people fearmonger about it "getting better" that's not a real problem because the end goal of AI is not "always has the correct number of fingers" or even "retain continuity between two separate instances" it's to create on a human level

if we had like, a holodeck, or a fabricator, and they worked like in sci fi, but it was unethical to do so, you'd have an actual issue where the thing being offered is so enticing it'd take a lot of self control to not indulge in it

but AI ain't that

even just like "poor people don't have the time to learn to draw so they have to use AI" is totally false equivalence, generating an image doesn't build a skill, nor can it make anything you want with any level of specificity, like the tool you're arguing for doesn't even work

Lots of music has rough production, or sloppy musicianship, clunky songwriting, flat singing - but some people love it because the feeling behind it, the humanity, the personality, shines through not only despite - but because - of these "flaws".

Maybe you have crappy tools, maybe your work is not technically competent or within the bounds of conventional formal quality... so what? If you're making an honestly try to realize actual thoughts, passions, feelings, that's what matters. What makes it interesting.

It's always "gatekeeping" and "elitism" to insist there's any value in effort, failure or friction being part of the pursuit of a goal, experience or result. Everything is just content for consumers to these people.

There's so much more value in "failed" art than in technically competent slop.
no great artists have ever struggled, a famous thing about artists that we all know. everyone prior to three years ago lived lives of luxury.

18. The Muppet Show (2026)

This was a delight. New Kermit voice is rough but the skits were good, the guests were having fun, and I WOULD LIKE THE MUPPETS TO HAVE ANYTHING.

GIVE THEM A SHOW. GIVE THEM MOVIES AGAIN. LET THEM HAVE SOMETHING JESUS CHRIST.

it does genuinely feel like sometimes the definition of autism is "person who asks questions about the status quo"
Sometimes it feels like a large scale gaslighting of autistic people when we recognize patterns and point out that a bad pattern is going to continue to happen and have bad effects and neurotypical people response with something like “that’s just the way things are” and we’re all just like

The thing that fucks me up the most about Pickle Rick becoming a widespread meme for how Rick & Morty sucks, is that the episode it's from, and the whole pickle Rick scene itself, is like actually genuinely really funny.

honestly I kinda feel like people in the lower class aren't even saying this, it's a whataboutism that AI proponents are using, I'm sure there are exceptions, but in general I think a lack of wealth makes you more likely to value the process over sheer production
Using class as an excuse to use AI is ridiculous.

If you’re bad at something, but don’t have the money to pay someone to do that something, LEARN how to do that something YOURSELF.

Instant gratification will be the death of us.

Nevermind, of course, that the ability to generate the "highest value" AI art is going to be owned and monopolized by whatever techno-feudal conglomerate owns the best models and can afford to run the largest data centers.

The economics of genAI will NOT fucking trickle down.

"drawing something yourself in a way society would call "bad (i.e. unprofessional)" is the especially revealing phrase here, to me.

Creating art not for the purpose of, y'know, human expression, but to obtain a commodity whose purpose is to bestow value, social capital, to its owner.

It's always been hard for me to feel bad for someone who gets the internet mobbing them when they're in there in the mosh put with the unwashed hordes trading barbs with them. Like you clearly like this on some level man.

ME3 is really funny in retrospect because that was the first great The Gamers Want To Compromise Art controversy and since then every person who worked on that game other than the director has said some variant of 'we all hated that shit but the director insisted and there was no time to argue'

also I wouldn't say its "by the people who made it", it only has Masato Kato

and Yasunori Mitsuda for one song
Yeah, this one is literally by the people who made it and has been out as a gacha game for like 6 years.
