The animating force at the heart of US conservatism currently is incandescent rage at the mere idea of women's autonomy and independence. An image of a smiling woman who looks insufficiently deferential for their tastes riles them up enough to tear up the social contract.
this is all it’s really about for them. Not domestic policy, not “economic anxiety”, just an endless desire to punish stand-ins for the Mommy who forced them take a bath, even if it tanks their own quality of life.

tbh the stark reality is that for nonbinary gender existence to gain much stronger mass traction among the public, it's basically imperative that people also 'allow the body to be nonbinary' i.e. question sexing of the body itself. there's basically no way binary sex & nonbinary gender can coexist

I knew we were cooked but the response to this really reinforces it. I get personal faith occasionally informing a progressive worldview but nobody is gonna fix religion by convincing the zealots they’re interpreting things wrong
i think everyone needs to get a lot less religious

my favourite thing about witch hat atelier's story is that it is about a magic system that draws upon a constructive language of how to "communicate" the conjuring of magic but the entire plot is about a conflict regarding "rules over what is allowed with magic"

If you’re a feminist you can spend your whole life grappling with the inadequacy of narrative to convey reality or summon enough political will to enact change. But if you’re a fascist you can just use narrative as a hammer to claim ownership of reality and beat material conditions into conformity.
ultimately i think the central thesis of trumpism might be true nihilism, just the absolute disdain for the idea that anything matters at all beyond winning an argument in the eyes of your supporters. there is no such thing as competence. there is only loyalty and occasionally bad press. that’s it
