Speed cameras work.
When cameras are installed, they issue many violations in the first month, followed by a steep decline in the second month. This suggests that the cameras effectively deter speeding by changing underlying driver behavior rather than relying on sustained revenue extraction.

Ok, shifting gears from signals - can we drop a lane each direction heading into this intersection instead? What about a series of preceding speedbumps? And yes, I do mean bumps, not humps.
By grounding the crossing, we can have a larger park. But how do we propose to make the crossing safe? Instinct is signal, but that's not legally allowed. So instead, they're adding a raised crosswalk with overhead signals and a bi-directional bike lane on east side

The new designs for the McGrath highway removal were presented in a public meeting tonight. @joanliu.bsky.social got screenshots of the slides, and there's so many good improvements. Bike lanes! Raised crossings! #SomervilleMA #MassDOT #HighwayRemoval #McGrathBoulevard
Next intersection: Washington St. Before and proposed
They're removing the overpass (the deficient one)

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

Storrow Drive honors James Storrow, who worked to preserve the Charles as a public park — despite the fact that neither he nor his widow ever wanted a road built there.

🚧TANTALIZING! We all hate the awful 90° intersection of the Community Path and School St, and at long last some possible solutions are emerging. Three scenarios, still early in planning/feasibility, were just presented to the Council! More info: somervillema.legistar.com/MeetingDetai...

Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

"We joke that there are 365 days of the year, and the last day of picking is day 365," Cape Cod cranberry farmer James Ross told WBUR. "Then day one of next year starts."
How cranberries go from Mass. bogs to your Thanksgiving plate
Each year, Massachusetts’ cranberry farmers grow and harvest roughly 200 million pounds of cranberries. Here’s a glimpse at their yearlong effort to bring their crop to your plate in time for Thanksgiving.

I like these sidewalk-level bike lanes that also have separation from pedestrian space on the sidewalk with pretty materials like cobblestone and/or trees.

In the 1990s in San Francisco, I remember when the familiar sound of foghorns on the bay ceased to be necessary for maritime navigation.

People immediately yelled at the city government demanding that it install a fake foghorn to preserve the ambience.
I don't doubt this for a second and once you understand this, you will understand a lot about people
