My partner's before bed silly thoughts:
Why can't we put cottage cheese in pumpkin pie?
Why can't we breathe mayonnaise? We should have mayonnaise gills.

He gets worse when he falls asleep. I may have to write out the list of things he's said in his sleep before here at some point, they're fun

Anecdotal, but in June a pal returned from Glastonbury and Wimbledon, comically sunburned from both. "Ha!" I said, "remember when we were kids, every year it was mudbaths at the main stage and rain-stopped play on centrecourt? That was the *whole* deal with both those things- oh right jesus fuck".

We need it. Not only are the classes full, but also concert halls, libraries - we've gone to a bunch of classical concerts this year as an antidote to despair and guess what - they are full. They were not as full before, but they are now.

"Humanities are shrinking" is artificially imposed top down.
"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe

Holiday reminders:

- If someone has a new relationship, they’ll tell you. You don’t need to ask.
- If someone is pregnant and they want to share that, they’ll tell you. You don’t need to ask.
- If someone’s body has changed, they’re aware. You don’t need to point it out.

NEW: Sean Duffy frequently calls safety his “top priority” as transportation secretary. But I spent months wading through regulatory notices and found something far different: that USDOT has been delaying, weakening and killing dozens of safety rules, many opposed by the transportation industry.🧵

All of this has alarmed safety advocates and current + former DOT officials: "The consequence of this, of pulling back on these safety regulations, is that more daughters, mothers, children, bread winners are going to lose their lives,” said one.

Have you ever stopped to listen
to the leaves fall?
One falls and it expects its life is over, only to decay is left.
then wind comes along; gives it one last bit of air to dance one more time

One of the most liberating truths I’ve learned, and the one that white folx, particularly white men, still struggle to face, is this:

The myth of white supremacy explains your behavior.
It does not, and has never, determined my value.

He talks about healthcare access, rights to repair, LGBTQ+ rights, and working-class protections. (1/4)

"it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed"

This.

This right here.

I'm so, SO tired of having to scrutinize any piece of art that even remotely resembles genAI slop just to determine whether or not it's worth a second thought or any admiration.
Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.
