Anyone need a great band name? When I called my family to dinner last night I described the gravy (in part) with the phrase "Rosemary and the Chicken Drippings"

Not that long ago, if you saw this shot in a dystopian movie and it was supposed to be Minneapolis, you would've thought, well, that's a little heavy-handed

I believe Trump is itching to invoke the Insurrection Act, have the military shoot at protesters, declare martial law, and suspend the election --- at least in a few states like here in MN, if not everywhere.

Here's the ICE agent "defending himself" by shooting into the driver's side window of a car that's pulling *away* from him.

Put this photo on the front page of every newspaper in America.

The ICE statement says, "rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers... An ICE officer, fearing for his life... fired defensive shots."

Here's the video. Do you see any of that here?
This is the video.

Someone who claims to have witnessed the incident says
- car was blocking ice
- they told them to move
- "something happened'
- ICE shot into the car as it was driving away
- passenger got out of the car covered away and said friend was dead

There is video and I have seen it

Free-response question on my student course evaluations: "What, in your opinion, are the instructor's major strengths and weaknesses?"

Response #7: "His personality for sure."

There are actually some good points here — particularly the idea that "expanding opportunity" must mean admitting more students, not just different ones — but I strongly encourage you to scroll down and read the author bio for context: www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...
UC’s Test-Free Experiment Isn’t Going Well (opinion)
It’s become all too apparent that high school grades are insufficient in signaling college preparedness.

Magic Johnson was the grand marshal of the Rose Parade today, and as someone who remembers his November 1991 HIV announcement: if you had told anybody that day that he would be alive and healthy 34+ years later, I don't think they would have believed you. Medicine and research—they work.

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...
