1/ Today the Department of Education said that it’s transferring a variety of programs to other agencies, making good on Trump’s promise to dismantle ED.

The most important thing to understand is that this is a Potemkin reorganization. It’s fugazi, it’s fairy dust. It’s not real.

What is really going on in this society that elected Donald Trump president a second time?

I wrote about three stubborn myths about Trump’s support – and why America has experienced a de-alignment rather than a rightward realignment.

My new piece for @zeit.de – and some thoughts in English:
Unterstützung von Donald Trump: Die Irrtümer über Donald Trumps Rückhalt
Rechtsruck, multiethnische Koalition, Held einfacher Leute: Trump gilt als fest verankert. Doch diese Überzeugung beruht auf drei großen Missverständnissen.

Things were already bad and we were being asked to turn water into wine. But as (public) univs are having their funds restricted/illegally terminated, these pressures and demands are only going to get worse, especially as univs try to make up for those funding gaps by increasing enrollment 😵‍💫🥴
AI is enticing because it makes it seem like I might be able to do all the things I’m asked to do. I can’t write 5 articles, revise books, mentor students, write letters of recommendation, teach classes, work in the community, review for my peers, etc. and be a whole person.

100% accurate. The Pittsburgh synagogue shooting will be in retrospect a clear moment when the rise in Islamophobia spilled over into antisemitism.
By the by, I'm not sure you get the slow upswing in blatant antisemitism/groyperism on the right without the broad mainstreaming of blatant Islamophobia during the Bush and Obama eras. The xenophobic image of the Anti-Christian Other was always going to extend to American Jews

No more Black or trans staffers. No politics of any kind. The cowardice of mainstream media isn't just insulting, it's *boring.* Now TV is just like any other beauty rag. Why not just kill it quickly? Why the slow-motion pretense?
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

I’m sorry “federal preemption” with respect to AI means what, Kyrsten?

Say what you mean.

You are advocating for technonationalism and oligarchic capitalism and you either don’t understand that or care.

We cannot develop education against this form of nationalistic AI framing quickly enough.

You simply can't unplug the largest or 2nd-largest source of $$ of every R1 university & expect it not to have devastating consequences for graduate education, which will spill over to undergrad education.
