In Innsbruck for the talk tomorrow. It’s cold - am glad I covered up. The Alps ranges are snow capped in the background. There are Christmas markets.
Come if you around tomorrow.

J-12 ! 🔽
[WE DE RENTREE]

Amazing event in Marseille. Allez les personnes francophones - cet évènement va être superbe.
I can’t make it as am travelling.
The lesbian group, Groupe du 6 novembre, was a fabulous migrant lesbian group in France.
They didn’t allow the comfort of their silence to those who silenced them.

Sometimes the reactions aren’t what we expect. There’s a viral video of white women tourists dancing to Aarti, a Hindu prayer, on the banks of Ganga - a place of worship. Initially, several reactions underscored cultural appreciation & its expression through dance and joy. 1/2

I will not show visuals of Abu Ghraib or the numerous images of our genocidal times in my talks:

I refrain from showing visuals of degrading images in an effort not to re-enact the violence of sexual humiliation, of sexual assault, & rape. The ear is fully able to register the sexual violence 1/2

Going forward, below is how I'll intro myself in presentations:

My curent research lies in the entanglements of queer & decolonial theorisation with a sustained interest in History of the Present (Hall/Foucault), which allows us to offer a diagnosis of literatures, cultures & 1/2

Memory studies scholar, Michael Rothberg, adeptly deploys an analytic forged in another discipline (activism, law, sociology). Known for conceptualising the helpful frame of 'multidirectional memory' (2009), his 2019 book reads 'implicated subject' through lens of Black feminism & intersectionality.

Dismantle the police, esp French police. He could have killed her!!!
It’s almost always Black/POC populations who are brutalised in this obnoxious way by the French police — using other racialised folks in this case. It is horrifying!
Public transit should be free!

Our silence will not protect us.

The Epstein-Maxwell-Brunel sex trafficking web of minor girls is revelatory of the ease w/ which capital & white bodies cross borders. There’s always an element of anxiety attached to BIPOC bodies, despite some having global north passports.
And, of how women can undergird the most egregious crimes.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

Not seeing this being referred to as a white male grooming gang, which it is.
This article is utterly damning for the New York Times and also for Vanity Fair and ABC, whose editorial teams were apparently intimidated into silence by a mix of legal and violent threats. Virginia Giuffre did not stand a chance against all this.
This story by @davidfolkenflik.bsky.social about Landon Thomas, former NYT reporter now appearing in the latest email tranche, soliciting a $30k contribution from Jeffrey Epstein?

Yes, you can read it here

If we let the Brits have their way, they'd trademark not just sub-jee (my partner doesn't even know what else to call it), but our own names will be subject to a fee we'd owe 'em. Looters! Wait; 'loot' is a Hindi word. Lemme be careful -thieves! Can't say 'thugs'; they stole it from the Raj as well.
Can you trademark a word as generic as “vegetable”? Good article on the debacle of Bloomsbury halting the release of Yasmin Khan’s Sabzi, following a threat by a deli of the same name who claimed the trademark. Literally a billion people use the word “sabzi” daily, common to more than one language.
A Cornish deli trademarked a word for vegetables – and all hell broke loose
When a Cornish deli claims to ‘own’ a Farsi word spoken by a billion people, and a book with the same name disappears from Amazon, something’s gone badly wrong. Hannah Twiggs asks what this latest fig...

If you're at all interested, Mary Shelley's father, William Godwin wrote the novel CALEB WILLIAMS, a kind of proto-thriller which is also about the unjustness of power structures. He wrote several other novels, but this is the only one that has remained more or less constantly in print.

The media attacked trans folks calling them groomers and pedophiles. The Democrats attacked Mamdani. Both groups cooperated, collaborated with and/or capitulated to the Republicans as they struggled to bring about a new authoritarian white nationalist cryptochristian fascist state. Everyone's guilty

We need cool politicians! Seriously. Mamdani’s top 5 songs. Nani will soon become a common word as the west realises Indian languages have specific kinship terms (Nani, maternal grandma) for all relations.
Bank of Baroda connects him to Gujarat, his father’s origin.
My fave is #1 Spice - so catchy!
