Climate people, did the fossil fuel industry seed and propagate the idea that renewables (specifically batteries) require materials, which require mining, which is bad (so implicitly we should just run on fossil fuels forever)? It's just striking to me how devoutly people repeat it unexamined....

If a president wanted to become effectively a dictator, he’d likely:
1. Purge govt of non loyalists
2. Weaponize law against opponents
3. Use military to police opposition strongholds
4. Threaten media, schools, businesses w penalties to get them to heel
5. Change election rules in his favor.

<p data-end="684" data-start="524">“Deadly airdrops and a trickle of trucks won’t undo months of engineered starvation in Gaza,” said Bushra Khalidi, Oxfam’s policy lead for Israel and Palestine.</p>
<p data-end="835" data-start="686">She called for the full reopening of all border crossings to allow unimpeded aid delivery throughout the Gaza Strip and demanded a lasting ceasefire.</p>
<p data-end="1063" data-is-last-node data-is-only-node data-start="837">“What’s needed is the immediate opening of all crossings for full, unhindered, and safe aid delivery across all of Gaza and a permanent ceasefire,” Khalidi said. “Anything less risks being little more than a tactical gesture.”</p>
