Hey, here’s a great idea: passing state laws to prevent ICE agents from holding law enforcement jobs in the future.

This distinction is important because as this occupation continues the likelihood of defensive violence is going to grow, and if it eventually breaks out we need to avoid blaming the victims for breaking discipline or whatever.

I think it's mistake to talk about nonviolence in Minneapolis as if it is a deliberate tactic. Some groups are doing it, but a lot of folks are just ordinary citizens who have been (understandably) intimidated into deescalation.
Nonviolence is, in fact, working. This administration is weaker than it was a year ago. More and more of the public is becoming galvanized against it; its agents are being impeded.
Do you honestly think people in the civil rights movement and other nonviolent movements faced no violence themselves? They practiced nonviolence because it works, because the oppressor wants a shooting war, which is the war it will win

This was murder. Pretti did not initiate the confrontation. He didn’t strike them. He didn’t brandish his gun. They tackled him, beat him, disarmed him, and shot him.
Holy crap.

This is the most damning video yet.

It shows Border Patrol agents clearly taking Alex's firearm, running it away, and THEN executed him in cold blood by emptying a clip into his face.

Murder.

From this moment forward (and before, but clearly now):

-If you work for ICE.
-If you vote for money for ICE.

You are complicit. This is the gestapo. You're on the wrong side. You can't pretend not to know.

The last few years have seen the largest wave of immigration in American history. All those images we carry in our heads about people arriving at Ellis Island — we just surpassed that. Crime went down. Real wages went up. This is a fake problem. Enough is enough.

The only way out of all this is comprehensive immigration reform, which means the only way out of this is eliminating the Senate filibuster. End of discussion. When you hear the word filibuster, think about Renee Good. About kids being detained. Don't let Senators bullshit you about this anymore.

This is 100% FALSE. Immigration judges do NOT play any role in issuing administrative warrants. They are generated and signed by ICE officers themselves. ICE’s own training materials say they can’t be used for a search of a home!

Here’s a blank warrant form. Note who signs it.

Something that has led us here is elite impunity. The fact that laws aren’t enforced against favored interests produces moral rot. Everything from “cops get to park on the sidewalk“ to “Biden can ignore US law to arm Israel“ is morally compromising even if it isn’t aligned with the GOP itself.

Even after Trump is gone, the world will remember that he threatened to forcibly seize the territory of a peaceful democratic ally, and our institutions failed to immediately remove him. That makes US dangerously unreliable, not just one senile gangster.
His not being impeached by the end of the business day as a result of this threat is as much a problem as the threat itself. It’s not just Trump that the world has to worry about, it’s a GOP that supports him and Democrats who suck their thumbs and refuse to even discuss pushing to remove him

Abolish ICE. Destroy their weapons and melt down their equipment. Deny their agents, employees, and bosses all government employment for all time. Remove the agency entirely from the budget and give the money to public libraries and free health care.

My mayor told me police keep killing his constituents so I asked how many constituents he has and he said he just gives the police more money for training afterwards so I said it sounds like he’s just paying the police to kill his constituents and then Matt Yglesias started crying.

Abolishing ICE is now at record approval.

Renee Good's murder has ignited US disgust at taxes going to ICE, as Republicans cut everything else.

GOP needs Democrat votes to fund gov't.

Why are some Dems not using that power to cut ICE $$?

And why do they say "No New Funding" — not "No Funding"?
Will Democrats Vote to Give Trump More Money for ICE?
Americans increasingly want to see ICE abolished. Yet, Democrats could soon help Trump expand his violent anti-immigration campaign.

We are far past the stage of permissiveness with white-supremacist violence inside DHS. We are witnessing ICE transition into a death squad.

This cannot be reformed. The only question is who will fight to abolish it, and who will accommodate it instead.
Either ICE Is Abolished or It Will Kill Many More Renee Goods
Minnesota is just the beginning of ICE's transformation into a right-wing death squad. But it can be the end

Remember too: Illegally crossing the US border is a misdemeanor. All this for fucking misdemeanors.
This is Minneapolis:

-drop the kids off for a day with their grandparents
-go to brunch with your wife
-get a text from neighbors who don’t have enough food & can’t leave home or they might be abducted by fed govt
-get groceries as helicopters roar overhead
-deliver food & this vehicle passes you

I was just denied access to the ICE processing center at the Whipple Building.

Members of Congress have a legal right and constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight where people are being detained.

The public deserves to know what is taking place in ICE facilities.
JUST NOW: Huge mass of agents in a standoff, weapons drawn as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison attempt to conduct congressional oversight at the Whipple Building, which has been HQ for thousands of ICE agents.
