I work with archival films, and I'm going to start posting some of the interesting things I run across.

For clips where copyright is no longer an issue, higher quality versions can be found on my shutterstock page.

Once you’re reality-optional in one part of your thinking, everything is up for grabs. Faced with the choice between having to come back to reality about fluffy woo beliefs, or dive down the full conspiracy rabbit hole, most people will choose to go full lunatic
This is strictly a personal observation from living in LA, but RFK scares me so much because otherwise orthodox liberals with a woo food and chemicals streak are being converted into lunatic conservatives.
SCOOP: Academy Award-nominee Liam Neeson narrated a recent anti-vaccine documentary that glorifies RFK Jr.’s rise to power.

In the film, Neeson—a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador—calls the COVID-19 vaccines “dangerous experiments.”

The divide between how Canadians see the U.S. and how our political/business leaders see them is wild. It’s one of the biggest divides in perspective I have ever seen. Canadians are clear eyed. Our leaders are not.

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.

She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.
Smith doubled down on her anti court rhetoric today...

She even seemed to suggest that federally appointed judges couldn't render impartial rulings and that she believed her interpretation should always be above theirs.

Crash! Aftermath of a 1942 accident in Saskatchewan. I'm sure it was the most exciting thing to happen in that area for weeks, and everyone turned out to see. I love the classic RCMP uniform. Scanned from 16mm film

Given how many of the players in BvG have gone on to be up to their eyeballs in the corruption of both Trump administrations, anyone doing a “fall of the republic” documentary fifty years from now is absolutely going to stick it as the start of their timeline
i don't think that bush v. gore is the *worst* ruling in the history of the supreme court, but i do think it is the most openly *corrupt* ruling in its history. a real disgrace.

It would be funnier if you use an all British cast, but force them to use their “American” accents

Hugh Laurie with his accent from “House”. Daniel Craig as the PM talking like Benoit Blanc. Christian Bale doing his Bruce Wayne. Gary Oldman playing three roles with three different American accents
Honestly we should return the favour. UK political drama where the PM and every other cabinet member is played by a Yank

Can't take your camera to the game these days, but at some point in the 1964-65 season a fan took theirs to see the Canadiens play the Maple Leafs. A second clip with goals below! Scanned from 8mm film

Can anyone ID the game?

In honor of Halloween, here's what costumes looked like in 1953. I love how they didn't need anything fancy, although I'm not sure the plastic bag masks were a great idea

These kids are ready for some trick-or-treating! Hope you are too!

Smith is going to be so mad. I hope her and her separatist friends all choke on it
Today, I submitted 456,365 Albertans’ signatures to Elections Alberta, petitioning the Premier to do the right thing, avoid a divisive and economically harmful referendum, and allow MLAs to vote and reaffirm that Alberta’s future is in Canada.🇨🇦

Something I love about archival films is that when someone had a couple feet of film left on a roll they'd often use it to film their cat. So many films finish with a few seconds of cats

So, here's some cats from the 1950s and 60s. They were loved

Looking at the Edmonton election results and with Cartmell and Nickel both now gone, I’m curious who is going to emerge as the next “them” on council? Is it too much to hope that our upcoming council will actually be mostly functional, with minimal grandstanding?

Dear NDP.

Now is when you say that if elected, you will cap class sizes at 25 over an 3 year period to allow for the required capacity buildout.

That’s all you have to do here.
