People will say it's the lack of enforcement, and that's a factor, but we also have technology to limit phone use while driving and our automakers and leaders refuse to implement it. It's a choice to allow distracted driving. And all the deaths and injuries that result are because of that choice.
We’ve 100% lost the war on using phones while driving and it’s the worst.

This paragraph makes more difference than all the signage in the city.
If we are serious about pedestrian safety there's really only one way to ensure that vehicles will slow down and pay attention.. & that is to build infrastructure that forces drivers to slow down and pay attention.
There may be outcry, but drivers will adjust to traffic calming. They always do.

A good counter point to victim blaming rhetoric is noting that the best cyclists in the world get hit by drivers. It's not about skill; it's about lack of infrastructure and dangerous drivers (yes, even in the Netherlands). This happened in broad daylight too.

When you say that most drivers think murder is perfectly ok you sound unhinged, but that's the evidence.
A 72-year-old Hopkinsville, KY man was killed walking on I-24 West (MM 42.8) after his car broke down; he was trying to find a mile marker for a wrecker. He was struck by vehicles, and no drivers remained at the scene. Police are asking for witnesses or involved drivers to contact them.

A black Nissan Rogue, TN plate 3 PD 3046, Davidson County, bumped me while I was riding my bike on Charlotte Ave today, near 28th in Nashville. I was not injured or knocked off my bike, but he drove close enough to hit my elbow. TN law says to give bikes 3 feet of room when passing.

When you see someone you know driving, you have to decide whether to tell them later, when it's irrelevant. Nothing else you can do. But doing a quick 180 on a bike is simple.
i always have to resist the urge to honk and yell obnoxiously when i am behind the wheel and see one of my friends riding their bike

Driving in traffic is a dull and unpleasant chore and the only way Americans can escape having to do it all the time is by moving to one of three very expensive cities. This is bad and we should fix it.

If we want to get serious about protecting people, we will start deploying structural bollards that will stop drivers from lane departures.
Update - apparently a second light post has been mowed down? There's a bunch more broken glass in the bike lane

#Nashvillebikeweather 11/11/25: You might consider the a.m. bus. Main inconvenience was flat car tires last night from the cold. The Commerce bike lane closure at 6th is official (IDK for how long), which was more confusing since typically people just park there illegally without penalty.
