There's a point at which "impartiality" becomes gaslighting. The BBC has crossed this point.

This is the first example I’ve seen of an American government using AI to meaningfully misrepresent actual events with the intent to deceive the public. We are at Stalinesque levels of propaganda.

I disagree on this one. It's an issue that needs serious debate, & the PMB process produced that in a way that a government bill (even with a free vote) would not. Parliament has a discursive & educative function, & I agree with @courtenayilbert.bsky.social that a govt bill would have curtailed that

In the charter, the participating states must grant their representatives total immunity.

And the body can collect funds from any sources.

And they can do whatever they want with it.

Trump has an inaliable decision power about everything.

This "thing" is a corruption enterprise with legal papers

Crazy to think the Canadians would have elected their own dumbass if our dumbass didn't out-dumbass him right before elections. Then ended up with an actual leader instead.

Carney has found his home. He hated being confined to speak about monetary policy + financial stability as a central banker + took every opportunity he could to stray into grander, political things. Now talking grand, political things is his job and he is not passing up the opportunity to do it.

I was thinking yesterday that if you spent the morning saying that Starmer was doing the sensible thing and indeed any criticism of his approach was our fault for being childish "love actually" fans, that surely meant you were committed to the view that Carney was making a big mistake.
One of the most depressing things about Carney’s brilliant speech is the certain knowledge that neither Keir Starmer nor any other senior British politician of any party could have given anything like it - even if they understood the arguments.

New - Nigel Farage has been found by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards to have made 17 standards breaches, adding up to over £380,000 in late declarations.

He’s apologised, so no further investigation (which seems unusual for a breach this large)

New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

It's not the biggest issue today, but this statement should be given in Parliament.

This isn't fuddy-duddyism. It allows MPs to ask questions, puts other parties on the record, and, most importantly, doesn't allow a PM to pick the audience: a power that Starmer does not abuse, but future PMs will.

Making it so no rich american allies of Trump can travel to Europe will 100% cause the phone lines to explode.
they’re going to need to impose consequences that are felt in a personal way by the people in charge

ruining Trump’s big sports show, travel bans for the GOP (or, hell, all of congress), travel bans for rich Trump allies, sanctions on the Trump family

they feel invincible, change their minds
Honestly boycotting the World Cup would be the most effective and probably the least disruptive of all of the options available to Europe. I’m not sure how you can send teams and fans to contribute to a spectacle designed entirely to celebrate a guy trying to invade your territory.
