i rly do think that if you want to improve as a spec fic writer, the skill you need to focus on is just scene craft. it's not lore or conlangs or magic systems. it's nuts and bolts stuff. rising action - turn - consequences. what does your character want in this scene? and so on.

composing posts like "my most unchic opinion is that i actually do believe in the necessity and potential function of government" and then realizing that i'm so deep down a rabbit hole that this is functionally illegible

Zohran #Mamdani was just elected mayor of New York City!

It should now be a wake-up call to Canadian progressives — proving that people-first politics rooted in fairness, affordability, and real unity is the way forward.

THIS! You simply must first understand what the work is trying to do + is accomplishing. Everything else is downstream of that.
Without understanding what a piece of art is trying to achieve, and where it is successful, all negative or critical feedback becomes a matter of opinion.

And too many people assume that their opinion—what they don’t like, essentially—is the same as critique.

"who is the audience for your book." i'm going to be honest with you, it's gay people with classical educations who feel complicated about that. that's sellable right.

since it's spooky season, i'm gonna speak my truth: the nightmare before christmas is a bad, low effort film gilded by a high effort animation style and an overdeveloped, ultimately hollow aesthetic

my spicy take for the day is that simply complaining about the physical sensorium of your disability is not necessarily political speech. you have to connect it to systems.

If you missed the panel, the TLDR is: bcs it is explicitly taking place in a heightened fantasy world, romantasy offers a permission structure to explore the erotic potential of things that we would NOT want to happen in real life #cancon2025
omg @ronansadler.bsky.social over here nailing all the thinky thorny troubling dynamics that have bugged me in romantasy yes please 🔥🔥🔥 #cancon2025

When we write or draw porn or erotica, we get banned from having a bank account and our livelihoods get seized even if we give it away for free.

When billionaires steal what we've written or drawn to churn out a slop-approximate of porn, they're allowed to charge for it.
Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year

KATABASIS X LOCKED TOMB. A woman goes missing; to save her, her friends will have to harrow hell—and history. Dante’s Inferno meets Orpheus and Eurydice, but Virgil and Dante are catastrophic exes, and Eurydice isn’t sure she wants to be saved.
