When we write or draw porn or erotica, we get banned from having a bank account and our livelihoods get seized even if we give it away for free.

When billionaires steal what we've written or drawn to churn out a slop-approximate of porn, they're allowed to charge for it.
Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year

This is so significant: a new comprehensive report detailing the myriad modalities of Canadian university complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

stories are DEEPLY important but they are insufficient to get us out of the current moment
fictional representation and getting a book deal are not activism
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat
you can basically pick my brain about this at any time i love talking about it

i love gay people suffering because of overweening pride or unwavering commitment to ends they should turn away from or thrashing attempts to get back at a system they can't change but must defy
I love the past decade or so of queer joy but personally i'm ready to let queer tragedy back in the house
my book features a blowjob on page five, which i might have reconsidered if I'd thought about how many introductions I'd have make by strolling into people's inboxes talking about dick.
I am reading He Who Drowned the World and I am sitting in the stands with a foam finger and opera glasses as these queer people commit atrocities
KATABASIS X LOCKED TOMB. A woman goes missing; to save her, her friends will have to harrow hell—and history. Dante’s Inferno meets Orpheus and Eurydice, but Virgil and Dante are catastrophic exes, and Eurydice isn’t sure she wants to be saved.

I survived and passed the test 🚗✨
today is the day where your protagonist is forced to participate in a high-stakes competition and test of skill in order to be judged worthy to operate their culture's sacred machines (i am taking my driving test)

i think the next craft mountain for me is more finely separating out the book's pov from the main characters'. there are many techniques and ways into this, i just need to find mine.
"I don't think I'm significantly more inattentive than the average person," i said, and my partner proceeded to laugh until they cried
great industry, feel great about it
to add on to this: marketing can kill your acquisition based purely on vibes. When I was acquiring, we often had to fight with a marketing department that just didn't read the manuscript or sometimes even the REPORT on the manuscript. It was "track" and "platform" and that's it.
I spent the summer reporting this essay on why it seems harder than ever to sell a book right now—especially if it isn't a debut and comes with the dreaded "sales track." I'm grateful to the writers, agents, editors, publishers & experts who spoke to me for this piece: thewalrus.ca/the-publishi...
