Everything that Rafel Behr complains about - Starmer's lack of principle, his inauthenticity - was known from day one, but he, like the rest of the commentariat, insisted this empty suit was uniquely qualified. They will never admit fault.

Starmer’s squandering of a historic election victory is a tragedy nearing its finale | Rafael Behr
The tactics that gave Labour its huge majority in 2024 were no preparation for government – and the prime minister has proved he has nothing more to offer, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

The fascists are on the horizon and this lot are plotting & secretly briefing over who gets to rearrange the deckchairs
Efforts to shore up Starmer's leadership may have backfired
Briefings aimed at seeing off leadership plots may have left the PM more vulnerable, some in Labour fear.

From the PSNI’s abject failure protect communities or pursue arrests during the August 2024 far-right violence to to the leaked non-intervention orders issued to PSNI officers during the paramilitary backed far-right Ballymena violence and pogroms - alarm bells should be sounding. [1/4]

This might have been true 20 years ago. Unfortunately it is no longer the case. As the people whose actual memories of war have died, we've replaced sombre remembrance with fascist purity tests and crass celebrations of violence.
One of the most precious things about Remembrance is that it sets no political tests.

It asks only that we "remember", and that we do so in the silence of our own thoughts.

It doesn't dictate what we remember, how we remember or what lessons we draw.

That's between ourselves and our conscience.🧵

You don’t raze entire towns and cities street by street with controlled demolitions and bulldozers for any military objective. You do it because the aim is to wipe those places out of existence forever, and it’s not like they’ve been hiding this.
Inside Gaza, BBC sees total devastation after two years of war
With endless rubble and destroyed streets as far as the eye can see, any plans for Gaza's future are a far cry from where it is today, writes Lucy Williamson.

Kids today will never know the true meaning of Halloween. In my day you needed to be highly flammable and cruise around the party at cigarette height. Now they're dressing up as Super Mario or a traffic cone and prancing around with vapes x

Call them cunts and tell them they get nothing. Spit in their stupid faces. Put extra Asians in the Christmas adverts and explicitly say you're doing it to fuck them off. Tell them *no* for once Jesus actual Christ lads. Not "this is unworkable" or "this is expensive". Just no.

Remember all that rattle about how Labour had been listening to the public, to find out what would make them popular and electable? Does it look like it was the public they were listening to, or does it look more like they were listening to maybe four or five newspaper editors.
Labour hits their lowest ever poll rating with YouGov, level with the Conservatives on 17%. Greens at their highest ever.

Labour, Conservatives, Lib Dems and Greens now all essentially within margin of error of each other

I’m starting to notice a subtler effect where non-techie heavy LLM users are subtly anthropomorphising it as some kind of genius friend and get angry/defensive about any mention of limitations/problems (as if you’re insulting a close friend or admired colleague)

Lol at "Praetorian Guard", but what's really amazing is that they're still using the "grown-ups back in charge" line. These people aren't simply dim - they are incapable of original thought.
