Chair of the Southwark Liberal Democrats / Campaigner in Herne Hill and Dulwich 🔶
Huge thanks to @hinabokharild.bsky.social for speaking at our @southwarklibdems.bsky.social AGM this evening! Great to hear about the work you're doing at City Hall and thank you for all you're doing to support us here.
Been visiting many London LibDem AGMs this month. Tonight I ended the evening with the @southwarklibdems.bsky.social - what a fabulous turnout.

Thank you to all the amazing councillors, members, activists and candidates who are working incredibly hard in our capital city!

Labour now say that
Brexit is incredibly damaging... But that they definitely don't want to reverse it.
She said the Office for Budget Responsibility’s report on Wednesday would conclude that a downgrade of productivity was down to Brexit and to the Conservative’s austerity measures – and would say explicitly that it was not due to the policies of the current government.

It's starting to get difficult to keep track of all the Labour councillors who are quitting in London.

In Southwark it's 6% of their councillors in one week.

There are an estimated 18,000 refugees in Southwark, including Afghans who fled the Taliban and Ukrainians after Russia's invasion.

Many have now built new lives here and enrich our communities.

Under Labour, they could now be deported at a moment's notice. Just appalling.

Couldn't agree more. And it is shameful that there are Labour activists out there that will justify this out of blind loyalty.

This entire spiel could have been from the Conversative Party. What she means is that she'll weaken human rights and modern slavery laws just to look tough, and all to try and win over Reform voters. Absolutely shameful to see this from a Labour government.

Southwark faces huge challenges - a housing crisis, rising crime, people struggling to make ends meet. Instead of focusing on these problems, Southwark Labour is racked with factionalism and infighting, with two more of their councillors now jumping ship. Southwark deserves far better than this.🥀

Fantastic result! @joshbabarinde.bsky.social is an absolute star, and I know will help the Lib Dems reach even more people, and achieve more success as a party, especially in Labour-facing areas. The @southwarklibdems.bsky.social are really looking forward to working with you, Josh. Congratulations!
Congratulations to @JoshBabarinde.bsky.social - newly elected President of the Liberal Democrats.

Welcome, Tina! Across the country, we're seeing so many people disillusioned with Labour as they abandoned their values. So glad to see them finding a new home with the Liberal Democrats. 🧡
A big Liberal Democrat welcome to Councillor Tina Valcarcel, who has joined the Liberal Democrats from the Labour Party.

Tina who has represented Stockwell East since 2006 and served as Mayor of Lambeth in 2011/12, said she could no longer support Labour.

Also his cap says West Dulwich which is miles away...
In other news, Kevin Hollinrake, the Tory party chair, is in Dulwich. Sadly for him – I know the area fairly well – he's currently a good 30-minute walk from Rachel Reeves' family home.

Thank you Vicki and all of our Lib Dem MPs who voted against this cruel proposal from Reform UK. The Lib Dems' unwavering commitment to human rights and civil liberties was one of the main reasons I joined the party, and I'm proud that we continue to lead the defence of the ECHR.
We’ve just defeated Nigel Farage’s attempt to tear up people’s rights by taking the UK out of the ECHR.

The Liberal Democrats will always defend the freedoms and liberal values that define our country.

That Reform could win a majority (even a bare one) on just 27% of the vote shows that how broken our voting system is. It's intolerable that Labour still refuse to introduce proportional representation, and it could now be their downfall. 🥀
My Seat Projection [usual 'it's just one poll' caveat]:
