I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:

All the fear about AI, all the reluctance to adopt it, is entirely legitimate, and a product of the fact that it's been foisted on the public with no consideration of its negative externalities.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

This kind of thing absolutely kills most of the book sales that one might have from someone browsing the site. Every book now has to contend with the glut of AI slop and rip-offs that drown it.
On this page you'll find nine clearly AI James Gandolfini biographies that were published after mine.

It's absolute madness and authors have no power. Don't buy books from Amazon. Buy them from @mzspress.bsky.social or @bookshop.org or your local bookstore or even fucking B&N but not goddamn Amazon

"This technology will destroy all your jobs and render you useless to society. You should adopt it today, and subscribe to our product so we can make more money!"
Not a strong pitch, one could say.

Valve has now rejected my complaint, confirming that "I don't like muslims" is a valid reason to leave a negative review on a game on Steam

This is where we're at now.

The redistricting stuff is really starting to look like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic
CONFIRMED: Eileen Higgins, a Democrat, will be the new mayor of Miami.

She'll be the city's first Democratic mayor since the 1990s. She flipped the office from Republicans, and does so easily. She leads the DeSantis-endorsed Emilio González 59/41 right now with most ballots counted.

You gotta imagine that there’s ten or more kids in the school that have been drawing their own comics that are getting a really rough introduction to how little people value someone with an art career

Pay for the kids to get comic making lessons!

Hire some comic artists and writers to come teach the kids!

I took a paneling class in college that changed my art forever, helping me storyboard better.

This will just stunt growth. It's an illusion pf opportunity.

Remember this as Trump and Big Tech lobbyists try to block AI regulation at both the state and federal level.
EXCLUSIVE: We found that Instacart is using AI algorithms to charge customers different prices for the same items.

It's not just online. It's in physical grocery stores too.

Our months-long investigation with @consumerreports.org and @groundwork.bsky.social found it could cost families $1200/year.

Once I stayed up all night drawing actual illustrations for a spot that ran nationally on short notice and I would like to tell the people who “hardly slept” because they were “writing prompts” that they are soft pathetic babies who can go to baby hell.
McDonald's has released an AI-generated Christmas ad

The studio behind it says they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts and refining the shots — 'AI didn't make this film. We did'

It's just two parallel realities: one for an executive class so enraptured by the promise of labor savings that creative departments are pushed into creating AI slop, and one for everyone else, who view the slop with their own eyes and are repulsed by the rank aesthetics of automation

It's truly wild to me that this just keeps happening. Coca-Cola runs an AI ad and people overwhelmingly react with disgust. They do it again, and people are disgusted again. Now McDonald's makes an AI ad that's so bad that so many people are furious about it they pull it down.

People hate AI slop!

Gently ... composition as a course teaches us how to package ideas to an audience for understanding.

The skill being taught is thinking
If you are providing me with an education that is low utility in the world then it’s a disservice. My composition class spent four weeks on poetry. I’m sorry, but that only would’ve been useful if I wanted to be a poet. I don’t need to know iambic pentameter in order to be a victim advocate.

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

No one before Sam successfully raised a child, which is why the human species went extinct in Mesopotamia. Seriously, the best way to read this is that countless billions of humans did just fine but Sam is not as competent and self-reliant as them, and that's what AI wants us to be: dependent.

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."
