My Aristaloe is sending up a blooming stalk - should be in full bloom in 2-3 weeks. Wish the hummingbirds were here because they'd sure enjoy nectaring from the flowers. #aloe #photograph

Yep, new buildings especially are way too sealed up, which might be ok if the HVAC has proper filtration or cleaning (like with Far-UVC), but uh, that's rarely the case. Dr Georgia Lagoudas on the recent @volts.wtf podcast said that until recently, the building IAQ standard was based on just smells!

In below freezing climates, you can still have nice public landscaping planters. #stockholm

We are sealing the crap out of homes.

Older homes have a lifetime of OG harmful particulates, and all 🏠 have off gassing furniture, appliances, etc.

If folks had any idea what CO2 was when cooking with gas, they would freak.

And, there is no return fresh air in winter b/c windows r closed.
Some things about indoor air quality (IAQ) that I think many people cannot wrap their heads around:
1) dirty air can directly affect your health like dirty water
2) in most places, the air is not monitored or filtered like water is
3) water quality is centralized but air quality is distributed

After a certain point during communism, every new apartment block in Bucharest was built right up to the single-stair height limit (today it’s 28m to the top floor, it was probably the same then). It’s not a capitalist ploy to wring more profit out of buildings, it’s just the efficient way to build.

It’s really not that bad.

Pro tip, tell them you have terrible gag reflex and you want the prep kit that is least gross and requires the least amount of drinking! Also, download some movies for hanging out in the bathroom. :)
My bestie Alex just started chemo for colon cancer and she asked me to use my platform to tell you to get your butts checked for tumors. We’re all fans of butts here on Bluesky, and we should do our part to preserve their bountiful beauty for all to enjoy. Let’s make 2026 the year of the colonoscopy

Rawr… these are fabu bollards/barriers creating protected pedestrian zones! In the US, where local and state DOTs make many of these decisions we get caution yellow and ugly freeway concrete shards. #stockholm

Aaaaaaand another below freezing icy day… people with dogs, people with babies, person with book… they are all chillin’ outside. Mmmm hmmm. Northern city excellence. Please note all American cities who have destroyed ground floor activity with skywalk systems. #Stockholm.

I’m always on the lookout for “Show, Don’t Tell” signage. This little neon tooth blade sign for 2nd floor dentist — sign A+

Hey look every North American city with extensive skywalk systems… when you make ground floor life active, people hang out and eat outside even when it’s below freezing.

Totally heart #ICA grocery herb scents wafting through the produce section—that, plus great lighting made me want to buy EVERYTHING.

Wow, #GwenStefani is shilling for religious capitalism and anti-abortion supporters. Just gross. #PaytoPray is ridiculous. Selling out your gender for zealot dollars is not something that’s gonna get ya into heaven, if that’s your thing.

(2) it points its middle finger squarely at the consultants
BREAKING: The Democratic National Committee will NOT release its long-awaited autopsy on Trump's 2024 win. The report is completed but Dem leaders decided it could distract from their winning streak, so it will remain secret. Not good.

The main thing I have had hammered home by the past ten years in politics is that we really need pretty much every government office to be run by boring and anonymous nerds who you will never once hear about in the news

If Trump announces a new and illegal regime change war against Venezuela tonight pay attention to which elected Democrats stay silent and don’t vociferously oppose and condemn him for it - and then make sure those Dems are subjected to primary challenges next year.

In Portland, I used to call them 50s hipster dads. They liked to cosplay cool spouse who wants his wife to work and might stay home with kids… the reality is that they usually phase shifted to 50s dads the second a baby popped out. Wife does all planning, shopping, childcare juggling, etc.
Because this has gotten so much traction I must also specify—the issue is not that men CAN’T clean. The issue is domestic labor is STILL overwhelmingly performed by women. It’s not a question of ability. It’s how this work is actually divvied up and how people think it should be divvied up.

Cars don’t belong in cities.
Another day, another driver causing a violent collision in Seattle.
Yikes. Heres the video (and the source, Honeyhole’s TikTok): www.tiktok.com/t/ZTrb52o8s/

Worth noting that this street has a “protected” bike lane, though these stores are close to the corner/intersection.

We need to do something about violent drivers in our cities.
