ICE ended up returning the man, Saly, after realizing he’s a fucking US citizen with no criminal record, per his sister-in-law. These fucking animals.

Reading journal entries from 2002 and 2003. I was in a dark place with my “work” at YWAM/Ecclesia College. Lost years. Grateful Jana and I are long gone from those white evangelical ministries.

This is also a prime example of how churches don't REALLY aim to optimize their effectiveness in accomplishing their own founder's objective (make real disciples).

Rather, they often exist to carry out the traditional form itself. You're a church if you have a service, making disciples is optional.
A thought I've had for years:

If you'd never been to a church, and you were tasked with designing from scratch how "the church" should influence Christians' lives, based only on what we know about how people learn and grow, you'd pretty much choose the opposite of the weekly large church service.

just incredible to have somebody with this political view quoting Matthew 25, the chapter where Jesus says none shall enter Paradise except those who feed the hungry, welcome the foreigner, took care of those in prison etc

Someone should explain to him why there are so few OBGYNs in Alabama.
Dr Oz: "Alabama has no OBGYNs in many of their counties, so they're doing something pretty cool. They're actually having robots do ultrasounds on these pregnant moms."

Search consultant asks if I know someone for a pastoral staff role at a Minnesota AG church. Website reflects a white evangelical megachurch. Their FB page announces they're launching a podcast called "Boom Shaka Laka" highlighting "holy mic-drop moments". This consultant knows nothing about me.

ICE has kidnapped so many people from their cars that the city had to put out this statement. Let that sink in.
Vehicles that are abandoned due to an ICE detention and towed to the City's impound lot will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost.

Going through my 2016 journal and can only SMH as I read how the church I worked at tried to attract Millennials by performing Coldplay and Katy Perry songs to open worship services. It was a joke back then, and looks even more out of touch today.

It's bad enough that Trump is turning the USA into a global pariah, but it's even worse when you remember how he keeps insisting that "world leaders respect us again" now that he's in charge.
Look at what Trump has done.

Koh: Trump has now spent $30 billion from the last bill for 10,000 more I.C.E. Agents that are going to be on the streets. That $30 billion would cover all the ACA subsidies for a year. It would eliminate all co-pays for prescription drugs for people from a year, and eliminate all medical debt.

Estimates for number killed in the Tiananmen Square massacre are greatly debated more than 30 years later. Experts say likely between 1,000-3,500. If CBS News warnings are true for Iran's 12,000-20,000 — we are looking at something 5x to 15x greater. A historic horror.

This is a jaw-dropping piece about ICE recruitment.
The article appears to be partly paywalled and I would encourage anyone who can afford it to subscribe, Slate's got a hell of a sale going right now and subscriptions are how they can afford to pay freelancers for articles like this one

For my fellow brokies, though:
You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

It's especially insane if you step back and think about Minnesota, basically a community of cold-hardy mildly lefty nerds with good social services. This makes it sound like an open-air prison
Trump admits that this is nothing but political retribution. Minnesota voted against him three times and now he’s punishing us – putting lives at risk and wasting enormous resources in the process.

Everyone knows the really dangerous criminals like to follow the police right as the criminals are doing their crimes, it's just common sense
HAPPENING NOW: In federal court in MN, DOJ is struggling to articulate why a person following an ICE vehicle — so long as they are obeying traffic laws — can be stopped for "reasonable suspicion" of a crime.

Judge Menendez sharply questioning that contention.
