Happy birthday to the Soviet linguist Yuri Knorozov who casually deciphered the Mayan script in 1952 and got pissed when editors removed his cat as co-author on papers or cropped her out of his author headshot (the only picture of himself he even liked)

Just got this same line from a staffer in my republican Rep's office.
Leavitt claims the administration is complying with SNAP-related court orders but warns that "the recipients of these SNAP benefits need to understand it's going to take some time to receive this money because the Democrats have forced the administration into a very untenable position."

Every dispatch from this courtroom is better than the last.
The defense team presses Lairmore on whether the sandwich really 'exploded.' They return to the photo of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground.

"That sandwich hasn't exploded at all, has it?" defense asks.

"It looks like a little bit is coming out towards the bottom," Lairmore replies.

All these recommendations make a lot of sense. And I got a few titles to add to my TBR!
Now that Peacemaker's second season has come to an end, the characters finally have time to catch up on their TBRs.

Luckily Alex Brown (@bookjockeyalex.bsky.social) is here to recommend books for each of them—and never fear, they found something perfect for Eagly.

Cable week on #ShowMeYourKnits! I'm *so* close to finishing the body of my Cara Sweater. It's a lot of work, but I'm excited for how cozy it will be when it's done.

Ethan Hawke and everyone else on The Lowdown are clearly having so much fun. It's TV noir and also a caper, with at least one Faulkner joke thrown in. So much fun!
i'm getting the distinct sense that not enough of you are watching the lowdown, and do you not like good things???? there are GOOD THINGS

Rough math: 12.3% of Americans (41.7 mil) are about to lose SNAP. Many food banks produce 3 meals per $1, so a November worth of meals for one costs $30. Round it up to $35 for asst. costs & hygiene products. If 13% of us donate $35 each to food banks, we can get everyone through Nov! #EndHunger 🥙💪

EXTREMELY COOL BAT STUFF: A study out in Science today found that the greater noctule bat, Europe's largest, hunts and catches *migrating birds* while in flight. In at least one case, a bat climbed to more than 1200 feet, then chased a robin downward FAST until it caught it near the ground.
