that’s an argument i think people could respect, but the won’t even make it

okay so you're not gonna believe me but the Jersey City Ward *F* Councilman's real legal name is Frank E. Gilmore and the E is Educational. he changed his name to Frank Educational Gilmore because he...believes in the power of education...?
With a name like Ward E. Councilman I suppose it was inevitable that he go into city government.

I do regret to inform you that the heavily-accented North Jersey boss whose videos you all love (they're good videos!) is evil and currently trying to install Homo Cuomo as mayor of Jersey City to facilitate smoother corruption
Jersey City's mayoral runoff is an everyone-vs-the-machine brawl, with first-place finisher Ward E Councilman James Solomon getting a ton of endorsements since winning a spot in December's runoff with disgraced ex-Gov. Jim McGreevey—backed by Brian Stack and the Hudson County Democratic Organization

Funniest thing about the shutdown arc is the Democratic strategy made no sense, but was totally working thanks to the tireless efforts of Donald J Trump.

im not too sure the Democratic Party has a brand other than milquetoast losers who hate their constituents — for a party obsessed with polling get a clue yall
Chris Murphy: "There will be pretty substantial damage to a Dem brand that has been rehabilitated if on the heels of an election in which the people told us to keep fighting, we immediately stop... if we surrender without having gotten anything, I worry it'll be hard to get them back up off the mat"

I would somehow be significantly less annoyed if Democrats were honest about why they're caving (no stomach for a continued shutdown through the holidays) rather than pretending the "concessions" they got are worth anything. stop wasting my time with the bullshit at least.

Do you plan to support a challenger to Schumer, and primary challenges to all the yea voters, or is this just talk?
It is a massive mistake to strip tens of millions of people of their health insurance. It’s an outright betrayal of what families need.

"See, we came together and compromised" is a good talking point when the gettable swing voter has a vaguely positive sense of both parties or how the system is supposed to work. Not when the 50th percentile marginal vote is like "I hate both of them so much" and your offer is "cool, I'm like both!"

I think Dems could have actually gotten meaningful concessions. I also think Rs might have nuked the filibuster and the fact that eight Dem senators are scared of Rs nuking the filibuster bodes poorly for when we need to nuke the filibuster.

My actual position is that this is a fascist occupied government and giving them more money, at least without actionable restraints on their power, should not happen.
I understand that this is an extreme position. But I was hoping the Democrats would at least eke out a small victory.

This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

I’ll also say this: first gloryhound in the senate to loudly call for Schumer to step down will reap lots of rewards. Van Hollen? Murphy? Who wants to pick up the $20 bill that’s lying on the sidewalk?

I actually do feel for House Democrats as much as they suck because they universally held the line aside from one guy who I get the sense they no longer talk to and as a result you now have bland centrist frontliners releasing absolutely furious statements calling to burn down the Senate

To be clear: D senators trusting R senators who promise a vote on ACA subsidies at some future point is nothing more that a liar convincing a sucker. A sucker for believing the lie, and for believing that Johnson will ever bring it up in the House.
