If we don't do something they can easily leverage, they'll make something up, lie and say we did, or weaponize something that has nothing to do with us. That's why the respectability policing—and thinking that if everyone moves and talks just so, they won't be able to escalate—is magical thinking.

What I am asking of people right now is DISCERNMENT and NONCOMPLIANCE. Both of these things if practiced by most of us will help dig us out of this hole. More is needed than this of course but practicing both of these is an excellent start.

A good question to ask oneself politically is 'what do I need to ignore in order to maintain my commitment to x, y, and z?' Because if you, for example, need to ignore a whole group of people's humanity in order to vote for a horrible politician, then it may be too costly to your soul.

The most impactful thing currently happening is the weaponization of law enforcement to target people. It will have the most chilling and long lasting effect. And I said when Ras Baraka was arrested and then LaMonica McIver was indicted that the Rubicon had been crossed. Full on federal fascism.

Finally, I said years ago, and folks who have followed me for a long time know this is true, that defunding the police was a moderate demand that is actually the basement in terms of what's needed. I said that liberals will be deeply sorry that they turned that demand into some kind of bogeyman.
