When the definitive history of our time is written, the last words in the book will be, “White Americans determined that they would rather end democracy and endure tyranny than risk being governed by another black man.”

one way in which trump II is different than trump I is that there are far fewer people involved this time, and they're all true believers, so we're getting far fewer leaks this time around. i wouldn't be surprised if the number of people who know for certain what this is turns out to be less than 10
It really is amazing that the president has a noticeable an unexplained physical ailment that is disfiguring his right hand and there's no reporting about it. The White House's line is that it's from Trump shaking too many hands! Something is clearly being covered up.

I remember reading about wives of prominent Nazis having living room lamps made of human skin and wondering how someone could be like that, become that. How wonderful this century gets to such gleeful barbarity like the last one.
Folks not very long from now are going to see these posts in their histories of the 2020s and will shout, "what the fuck was wrong these people?"

There needs to be a very hard look at the Supreme Court’s membership and powers post-Trump. A court that lacks even a pretense of impartiality does not need to be listened to. We can just ignore them, bully the Sinister 6 off the bench, or strip them of their power- their choice.

Back in the 80s Utah’s predominant religion issued an edict- read over pulpits! - that Certain Things done between married couples were Evil and Forbidden, listing positions/types.

The uproar was so great that the church quietly stopped talking about it, but the prohibition has never been repealed.

What I find interesting about this exchange is not Hassett’s multitudinous lies- it’s that Fox viewers are hearing actual data about economic conditions, not the usual “Four legs good, two legs better” drivel they usually get.
FOX: Year to date job cuts are up 54%. That seems like a troubling number. What's your take?

HASSETT: The flow of jobs in & out is a little higher, there's a little more turnover. A lot of times that can happen because people feel like they're actually able to get another job if they leave this one

I did not know this about suicide attempts.
A lot of suicide attempts, especially among young people, are impulsive, which means that throwing up even temporary obstacles can save lives. It's not true that everyone who gets advice on how to kill themselves from an LLM would have figured it out anyway. These tools are causing avoidable deaths.
I am a suicide attempt survivor so I’m kind of selfishly interested in prevention and, again, while it may difficult to completely prevent IDEATION, what ChatGPT does (despite guardrails!) is *cheerlead and facilitate* completion. You can come back from ideation but not a chat-optimized completion.

“Your honor, the ‘victim’ was prostrate on the ground, bleeding from his stomach, gasping for air- clearly so that he could blow aggressively on my face and make me catch a cold. I had to blast him again.”
Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."

I feel like Brexit was England’s version of Trump 1; corroding the country’s institutions long after the vote was done.

I worry Farage as PM would be their version of Trump 2; the point of no return to the society and government that existed before.

An 11 point shift towards the Democrats gets you roughly to 2018 "Blue Wave" margins. 15 would nuke both the House and Senate majorities from orbit with votes to spare, to say nothing about state-level GOP majorities.
ok so premature thoughts:

1. this turnout environment was more similar to a regular midterm just due to how nationalized this was

2. that type of turnout dynamic produces D+10-15 overperformances

3. while it is definitely not enough to win TN-07, there are 25-35 districts where that IS enough
