This is something that @lochinvar.bsky.social and I talk about a lot. We trace the issue to a different core problem of gaming: *in general,* players don't have enough foundation in a setting to know if a lie is plausible, nor the resources to fact-check an NPC's deception.
FRPG GM Tip: Feints, red herrings, and unreliable narrators are great tools for fiction, but a campaign feels more personal than any fiction ever can. Using narrative subterfuge once to deceive the characters is fun. But doing it over and over again runs the risk of the players feeling deceived.

I've been catching up on Bond movies lately and I've noticed that Bond speaks French to white people but when a brown person speaks French to him he responds in English. I'm sure that can be explained by cover identities and the specific situations, but it's not beating the colonialism rap.

It's important to recognize that even those who are doing evil are human.
ICE goons are humans.
Trump is human.
Even Hitler was human.
But that shouldn't prevent us from defending ourselves and our communities. It should not prevent us from seeking justice and demanding consequences.

If you believe other people are not people, are less than people, that is not a thing anyone should say aloud in any house, and a thing it is frankly evil to believe.
In my experience it is impenetrable. I once told my mom her repeating rhetoric that liberals were evil really bothered me, that it hurt my feelings and made me feel unloved and unwelcome. She proceeded to play the victim, crying and saying “I just want to say what I believe in my own house.”

Last night I had to talk to my son about what would happen if ICE came to our town. He is stressed out about that possibility. We are not immigrants, but he knows they tear gas schools and abduct kids and shoot people.

Bounty hunters without specific targets would be a bad system even if you had well-trained, reasonable agents in a lawful agency. In an agency that recruits the worst people and trains them badly while simultaneously claiming absolute immunity, it's catastrophic.
