Repression almost never announces itself by targeting everyone at once. It begins quietly, aimed at minorities, those with less power, fewer allies, or voices that are easier to ignore. Their rights are restricted, their freedoms narrowed, and their suffering dismissed as exceptional or deserved.

While this points out important and horrific outcomes, I think it'd be more effective at convincing the one person who needs to see it if it was just a list of his overseas properties that will be seized on day one.

There's only one person he actually cares about.

I think that an underreported reason for why "<insert group here> has low AI adoption" is that many people do not have the luxury to be able to trade time for accuracy.

It's hard enough for women and minorities to succeed in STEM careers. We don't have the same luxury to be forgiven for mistakes

It's important to take breaks from the doom scrolling, and the bike ride I just took in the snow to go retrieve breakfast burritos for the family?

It was exactly the kind of break I needed.

I hadn't ridden on ice and snow before, it was a lot less sketchy than I expected.

yeah, that's pretty much how this decade feels.

Did a quick ride around the block to verify and everything seems good, so I guess I'm now able to patch bike inner tubes.

I'd replaced them before but don't think I'd done a patch. So far so good. That was simple and cheap and now I feel more confident that I could do it on the side of the road.

I feel good about that prediction.

That explains all the lemon pigs.
Yes. Subjectively speaking the Invite Era is a storied past time of myth and legend, a pansexual paradise that could not last forever and did not, but whose essence yet lingers, the background radiation of everything Bluesky is today, yes, yes, there is still ALF hog in everyone and everything here
I was about to say “Isn’t Bluesky only a few years old?” but then realized that’s only in OBJECTIVE time, not subjective, for which it’s been a goddamn eternity.

"Visa gift cards are designed to be used like cash, so you can't transfer the balance to your bank account like you would with a credit card. "

- From an FAQ about visa gift cards.

I can deposit cash at my bank. I can't deposit a credit card. What even is wrong with people?

Best part of owning a 3d printer, hands down, is the "I wonder how that works" part.

For example: Just watched a video on Janney Couplers. They're neat, I want to play with one to feel how it works.

Sure enough, there are STL files already. Push a few buttons and my robot starts making me one.

So profoundly disturbing.
As a person who has been studying extreme far right ideologies for the last decade (and did a PhD on immigration) I find the entrance of “remigration” into the mainstream American political lexicon so profoundly disturbing

I bought 32gb of DDR5 in September for $85. I tried to compare it to today's prices, but it's totally sold out.

The closest comparable RAM I can find in stock now is $350ish.
