I think this is a really important point. Yes, he has absolutely brazened it out before and may very well do it again, but there are some differences between those times and now in terms of the arrangement and dynamics of a number of variables that probably matter a lot
it's certainly possible that again he'll just barrel ahead and it'll work out.
the difference here though is there's no natural place for the tension to ratchet down. he's not going into office. he's not leaving office. he's at the beginning of his term; the next big thing is midterms.
