This is a huge part of why so many people think we're in the middle of a widespread "anti-woke backlash": Small movements opposed to social progress are collected into trend stories by conservative media. Far larger movements that want more diversity are ignored or cast as threats.

a scene from the charlie brown thanksgiving special where for some reason not only are there eighteen functional toasters in the house, they are all going at once anyway i never really noticed franklin sitting in that one weird chair as a kid but i was extremely pissed off that the kids had to eat jellybeans and popcorn and toast while snoopy secretly made himself a real meal. this dog. this animal got to feast while the unsupervised children suffered it really pissed me off

IT IS BLACK FRIDAY We’re all trapped in the workings of a bloated and rusting machine, and the desiccated perverts at the controls are determined to smash-fuck the lot into the nearest wall on the off-chance there’s gold hidden behind it. Black Friday is the epitome, the hood ornament atop the rusted bonnet, the cakey-ist circus of the cake and circuses, where we shuck free of the petty concerns of family, community and tradition and instead spend as much money as possible for reasons we can barely explain. They might as well throw fistfuls of tuppences into the fucking street. Last year we engaged in our first BLACK FRIDAY ANTI-SALE where we charged exactly the same amount for some of our products but promoted them as if they were cheap - and increased the prices of several others - and while it was a nice joke, it had no impact on our average earnings as people spent neither more nor less as opposed to any other weekend. It is the past, and it is America. You and your classy associates have gathered at the palatial mansion of Shelby Deville, your classiest associate. As you sit down to eat dinner, two terrible truths are revealed to you: - They’re only serving one course. - They’re... dead! Glancing around the room, it seems like everyone has a motive - you included. You’ve got twenty minutes (half an hour if you take your time and chew your food properly) to solve this mystery. A DRAMATIC TURN Each comes with THINGS TO SAY (or DO); please say (or do) these things as the game progresses. It will flow better if you can do them in order, but don’t feel like you have to if inspiration strikes. Once you’ve said everything on your character card and done everything on your role, you can reveal something dramatic about yourself: you’ve been in love with one of the other characters for years, you’re Shelby’s secret half-sibling or illegitimate child, you’ve been spying for the Russians, etc, etc. CHARACTER Plumbford Derrick. Self-made oil man. You are an investor in Deville Plastics. You need your stake back, but thanks to a tricky contract, Shelby has authority over your money while alive. THINGS TO SAY O “It’s just like my daddy always used to say...” O “You remind me of my third wife...” O “Tell me, you ever drink crude oil?” ROLE You are the Red Herring. It really seems like youdunnit, but you dunt. THINGS TO DO ⬜ Reveal something incriminating. Refuse to elaborate on it when questioned. ⬜ Awkwardly excuse yourself and leave the room. Return after exactly ninety seconds ⬜ Accuse someone of something obviously false to shift attention away from yourself ⬜ Reveal the real, shameful reason for your secrecy (not the murder)
